Birth Control Policies, can lead to a male dominated population since females marry out of the family commonly, and it means the parents won't have that child to look after them (example China)

BehindTheMask, remember the richer countries are the ones that put them in debt. We also need to consider how much they contribute to world food markets. (Zimbabwe used to be a big contributor)

Your China example is very misleading. The only reason why there is a desire for males to be born is the fact that society values men much higher in china then, for example in the United States. Women are not treated as equals there, since they are considered inferior to men.

"From the perspective of a Confucian family, marriage brings together families of different surnames and so continues the family line of the paternal clan. This is generally why having a boy is more preferred than a girl when giving birth. Therefore, the benefits and demerits of any marriage are important to the entire family, not just the individual couples."

Having a man in the family allows the family a better chance at escaping the poverty that is rampant in china, because the male has a better chance in society, and job wise, in China. In America, while women are not always treated with the same respect, there are affirmative action laws that prevent the total male domination of society. In fact, women today are getting more Ph. Ds then men are.

In response to the world food market, it would be more advantageous to reduce the consumption(not completely) of meat.

"According to the National Corn Growers Association, about eighty percent of all corn grown in the U.S. is consumed by domestic and overseas livestock, poultry, and fish production. The crop is fed as ground grain, silage, high-moisture, and high-oil corn. About 12% of the U.S. corn crop ends up in foods that are either consumed directly (e.g. corn chips) or indirectly (e.g. high fructose corn syrup). "

So, about 80% of the corn is used to feed animals that we eat. If we cut the amount of meat in americans diets(by replacing it with other protein sources) we can re-allocate A) the food the animals eat and also B) where we will house said animals. Not only are we helping reduce global hunger, we are also making americans healthier, by altering their diets in a positive way.
