Mass Outbreak? Totally forgot about those. To be honest, I never really caught Pokemon in a mass outbreak in the games. I never really found a need.

Yeah probably a smart idea.

I haven't posted it yet, due to the fact I want some feedback on it first. I will just post it here. Don't be afraid to be critical, because here I know you guys are honestly trying to help but sometimes, when you are in the fanfic section, there are people that just try to tear you down for no reason.

Chapter 1: A True Nightmare(Part 1)

Sebastian sat down at the base of the large tree with a sigh. He had been traveling all day, without taking a moment’s break. He rummaged in his back pack and pulled out a fresh, crisp apple. He had just bought it in a small village a day prior. Sebastian sank his teeth into the red fruit, and its sweet taste spread throughout his mouth. He let out a sigh.

In the shade of the large tree, it was actually comfortable. After walking for miles, with the sun beating down overhead, the tree and its shade were welcome. Sebastian finished off the apple and threw it aside. He leaned his back against the trunk of the tree and stared out across the grassy plain. A small breezed picked up, causing the tall grass to wave, to and fro.

It was so peaceful here. Sebastian wanted to stay for awhile, but he knew that loitering might make a problem arise. He pushed himself off the ground and slung his backpack over his shoulder. In the village he had stayed at the day before, he had heard stories of bandits in these parts of the plains. Sebastian had no desire to run into them.

At a slightly brisker pace he began walking again. He walked for hours, and hours. He didn’t know what exactly he was looker for, but he knew that he would know it when he saw it. A week ago, before he had started this trek, Sebastian had heard tales of a strange entity appearing during the new moon. Rumor had it that the entity send people into a comatose state. The people would not wake up until the following full moon, and when they did the rambled on about nightmares and demons.

Most people regarded the entity as an angry spirit that preyed on the fears of people, but Sebastian knew better than that. He knew that the so called ‘spirit’ was actually a powerful Pokemon. Darkrai.

Sebastian smiled inwardly. He had always enjoyed dark Pokemon more than any of the others. They just brought about them an ominous, almost a malevolent, feeling when they around. This feeling intrigued Sebastian and he soon acquired the ambition to catch and train dark type Pokemon. Now I will catch the most powerful one of all, Sebastian thought to himself.

Night fell, but still Sebastian kept walking. He looked at the rising moon and saw that only a small sliver remained. If he did not reach his next destination the following night, he would have to wait another month before being able to catch Darkrai.

“Time to speed this along,” Sebastian said to no one. He pulled his hand out of his pocket and grabbed an object that was clipped to his belt. The object looked like an enlarged marble, painted red on one side and white on the other. He pressed the center button on the object and it expanded. It was a Pokeball. He through the Pokeball into the air and it opened. A bright, white light emerged from the open Pokeball in midair. The light struck the ground and after it faded a black and gray wolfish creature stood where the base of the light had been. The Pokeball returned to Sebastian’s open hand like a boomerang.

Sebastian looked at his Mightyena and smiled. After countless hours of training he had not only made his Mightyena strong, but also unique. His Mightyena was twice the size of most of its species. It was truly an impressive sight. Sebastian hopped on Mightyena, who didn’t seem to mind, and bent down over its neck. “You ready, Ebony?” Sebastian asked the Mightyena, Ebony. Ebony replied with a bark and took off. She was quite fast, even with the weight of Sebastian on her.

The darkened landscape raced by as Ebony ate up mile after mile. A few times during the night they had to rest, but they made good time. Just as the sun started peeking over the horizon, a town came into view. Sebastian gestured for Ebony to stop. She happily obliged. Her tongue hung out and her sides were heaving. She was exhausted. “Good girl,” Sebastian praised ,”Return!” Sebastian held up the Pokeball and a red light engulfed Ebony, recalling her back into her Pokeball.

Sebastian continued to the town on foot. By the time he got there the sun had fully risen. He walked into town and instantly noticed a difference that wasn’t there in all the other towns and villages he had visited along his journey. Few people were out in the streets and those that were, had a tense expression on their face. It was as if the whole town was holding its breath, waiting for something to happen.

Sebastian walked down the center of the road. He had little to fear, in the retrospect of getting run over. There was not a moving car in sight. Nor was there a bike or a scooter, just people, hurrying from one place to the next. Most of the people in the town did not look at Sebastian and those that did turned away as soon as Sebastian noticed.

Yes, there was something not right about the time…and Sebastian loved it.

Sebastian made his way to an elderly man that was sitting in his rocking chair outside of his house. As Sebastian approached, the elderly man looked up and met Sebastian’s gaze. Unlike the rest of the people in town he didn’t seem tense or nervous. “You are the one that I saw in the vision. You are the one that shall from us from the binds of this ghastly Pokemon!” The elderly man said. At first Sebastian was too stunned to speak, How does this man know it is a Pokemon? He thought to himself.

Sebastian voiced his thoughts out loud. The man chuckled, showing that he had more than one missing tooth. “Not too long ago, I too was cursed to sleep under the Pokemon’s spell. Then, I felt it, a warm presence spread throughout my dream body. A voice spoke in my head, telling me the true name of the creature the plagued our town and that a hero would come to save us. Is that not you?” The man asked.

“It is me,” Sebastian replied simply ,”Is there a Pokemon Center that my Pokemon and I can rest in until sundown?”

“Yes, come on in.” The man got out of his rocking chair and entered his house. Sebastian looked at the old, wooden house with doubt, but followed the man regardless. As he entered the house he became aware of a musty scent, that let on that the house had not been aired out for some time. “A few months ago we had a real Pokemon Center,” The man said,” But after the recent attacks it was shut down. Now the job of taking care of trainers and their Pokemon falls to me and Happiny.” Upon saying this, a small pink shape moved out of the shadows of the dark corners in the house. The Pokemon had a pink ponytail protruding from the top of its head, and carried a stone in the pouch that seemed to be the lower half of its body.

“Hap-,” The Happiny said cautiously.

“It’s okay. This nice trainer is here to free us, just like I said.” The old man told his Pokemon. Upon his words the Happiny started to cheer and came closer to Sebastian, holding out her hands. “She wants you to give her your Pokeballs,” The man said.

Sebastian gave Happiny the four Pokeballs from around his waist. She took them and headed towards the back of the house. Sebastian had a moment of unease, watching his Pokemon disappear into the gloom of the windowless. It soon dispersed though, the man seemed trustworthy enough. “You can sleep there,” The man said, gesturing to a small, pull out bed. The sheets looked old and musty, but to Sebastian, who had been traveling for days on end, it looked perfect. He set down his backpack next to the bed, kicked off his shoes and was asleep by the time his head hit the pillow.

Sebastian felt something nudge his shoulder. He cracked his eyes open and through the narrow slits he saw a pink shape. He opened his eyes all the way and rubbed the sleep out of them. Standing there was Happiny, with the four Pokeballs he had given her earlier. “Happiny!” The Pokemon exclaimed, offering the Pokeballs to Sebastian.

Sebastian took them and clipped them onto his belt. After doing so, he looked above Happiny to the old man that had housed him. “Thank you,” Sebastian said.

“No, thank you,” The old man said, and with that he disappeared farther back into the house. Leaving Sebastian nothing to do but brave the dark night that had fallen while Sebastian had slept. He left some money on the bed he had been sleeping on and then left the home.

There was no one outside on the streets. Sebastian could see a few curious eyes peeking out from behind some of the house’s blinds. Out in the distance he heard the chirping of a flock of Murkrow. Their call pierced the quiet night.

Sebastian looked up at the sky, and was unsurprised to see that there was no moon. Almost at once, the calls of the Murkrow stopped. The slight breeze that had been blowing came to a halt. Sebastian once again returned his gaze to the sky. Silhouetted by the faint light of thousands of stars, was a figure. The figure raised its hands above its head, creating a sphere of pure darkness. It threw it at the still form of Sebastian.

Sebastian’s eyes grew wide as the attack hurtled towards him. Fear paralyzed his entire body. Just as the attack was about to reach him there was a pink blur off to Sebastian’s side and then he felt a strong force knock him to the ground. The attack whistled harmlessly overhead, crashing into the ground behind him. Sebastian looked at his savior and was surprised to see that it was none other than Happiny. “Happiny?” The Pokemon seemed to be asking if Sebastian was alright.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks,” Sebastian said. Happiny nodded and then scurried off, back to the old man’s house.

Sebastian looked back to the figure of what he knew to be Darkrai, it was slowly descending toward the ground. I hovered a few feet in front of where Sebastian lay in the dirt. “You have come to challenge!” The Darkrai said in a gravelly voice. It sounded as if it had not spoken in years.

Sebastian was dumbfounded. Never before had he heard a Pokemon talk, let alone address him. Sebastian swallowed. “Yes,” Sebastian said cautiously, getting to his feet.

“The let us begin.” Darkrai took spread his arms farther apart, taking a fighting stance. Sebastian steeled his nerves. He had come all this way to capture Darkrai, and he was not going to fail. He took a few steps away from Darkrai, not because he was afraid, but because if he sent out a Pokemon at this distance the battle field would be diminished considerably.

“Don’t fail me now!” Sebastian said, as he threw a Pokeball. In a flash of light, a Pokemon emerged. The Pokemon was lizard-like in appearance, but it stood on two legs. Its orange and yellow skin was washed out by the darkness of the night, the bright, red crest atop its head stood out like a beacon. “Let’s go, Scrafty.”

Without a moment’s notice, Darkrai raised his arms above his head and formed, once again, a sphere. Unlike last time, this sphere didn’t seem as mysterious or powerful, but Sebastian wasn’t going to let his guard down. “Scrafty, use Hi Jump Kick!” Sebastian ordered. Scrafty jumped high into the air, and then with an unseen force propelled himself towards Darkrai, foot first.

Sebastian could have sworn he heard Darkrai chuckle. Darkrai lowered himself closer to the ground, making the Hi Jump Kick pass harmlessly overhead. Scrafty hit the asphalt of the road and strong pained roared in his leg. “Scraf-,” He cried out in pain. “Use Low Kick!” Sebastian commanded, ignoring the damage that Scrafty had taken. Scrafty responded immediately. He brought his legs out to the side and swept the across the ground. Quick as lightning, Scarfty’s foot connected with the legs that Darkrai had conjured for himself. Darkrai’s eyes grew wide as he fell to the ground.

“Don’t underestimate us,” Sebastian said.

“It is you, who underestimates me.” Darkrai chided.

Scrafty got back on his feet and stood patiently waiting for Sebastian to give an order. Before Sebastian could give a command Darkrai shot a spiraling blast of dark energy hurtling towards Scrafty. It hit him straight in the chest, knocking him backwards a few feet and then landing him on his butt. “Scrafty, you can do it!” Sebastian encouraged. Scrafty shook the daze the attack had given him and got up. Without having to be commanded he knew what his master wanted him to do.

Scrafty sprinted towards Darkrai, his fists hung by his sides and his eyes were closed. His fists started to glow as he approached Darkrai. Scrafty’s eyes snapped open. “Scrafy, use Focus Punch!” Sebastian called.

Scrafty leaped into the air, and struck Darkrai squarely in the job. Darkrai flew up word and then landed with a thud on the ground. “You will pay for that one,” Darkrai said, getting up. Scrafty stood in front of Sebastian. Using Focus Punch, his most powerful attack, had taken a lot out of him. Darkrai stared directly into Scrafty’s eyes and in a flash of purple light Scrafty fell asleep. “Hypnosis…” Sebastian muttered angrily to himself. He moved to grab Scrafty’s Pokeball, but before he could return Scrafty, Darkrai sent a black sphere, Shadow Ball, hurtling towards Sebastian’s hand. The Pokeball went flying into the dark depths of the night.

“I told you, you would pay. Now watch your precious Pokemon suffer!” Darkrai roared. After saying this Scrafty started to convulse. He opened his mouth in a silent scream. He opened his eyes, pleading for Sebastian to save him, but he was trapped in the nightmare that was Darkrai.
