[[Yugioh ED]] Edge Falcon

Hello, everyone. I know it's been ages since I dared to post in the Realistic Cards section, so here is my latest attempt to get back into cardmaking. As you may know, I recently decided to focus on extending my cardmaking work to match some of my current writing projects. In this case, I decided to give you guys a sneak peak at another of the many Japanese-styled cards cards which will be featured in my upcoming writing project, End of Days. This card is one of several that belongs to a Winged Beast-Type Deck used by a supporting character.

As always, your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Edge Falcon
Level 4
Wind
Winged Beast-Type/Effect
ATK 1800 / DEF 400
During battle between this attacking card and a Defense Position monster whose DEF is lower than this card's ATK, inflict the difference as damage to your opponent. When this card inflicts damage to your opponent, draw 1 card from your Deck. If this card attacks, it is changed to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase.

it seem's abusable.

Piercer which gives you +0 for its first use. Has access to Icarus Attack.

Pierce, draw 1, Icarus, blow up 2. CoTH this back, attack, draw once more.

its got decent support, not amazing but decent. Easily backed by Shrink (if you just leave it in ATK position) can be summoned by Vortex the Whirlwind. This card love Spirit Reaper and similar monsters.

Im not quite sure how you could tone it down but maybe if you changed it so that it only netted you a draw if it inflicted piercing damage specifically.

Thanks Ragnarok1945, I'm glad you liked the card. I know it's bit humble when compared to some of my more ambitious attempts from before, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out in the end. I appreciate you taking the time to comment, as well as giving me a high rating.

Tuatha, I feel like you would bring up valid points.. if all of your arguments weren't so horribly situational =/

I totally agree with what Ragnarok said, but you really have to take the abuse probability seriously. The cases of which Tuatha speaks, are not that situational if you think about it. Using a Winged Beast/ Harpie deck can easily help them get realized. Anyhow, my rating is 9.2/10
Nicely done! *thumbs up*

The card is an automatic +0 if you battle a monster of lower ATK or DEF (depending on the situation), and can potentially generate +1's throughout its continued existence. Even having piercing is something that was considered taboo on a monster with 1800 ATK, especially one with an abusable Type such as Winged-Beast. There is only 1 1800 ATK monster with piercing, and it has 0 DEF and is switched to defense any time it's attacked, not just when it has attacked. Even if it does end up getting destroyed, you can always return it, creating a +1 situation when you attack with it again. And you can always just Tribute it for some kind of effect, such as that of the painfully obvious Icarus Attack. With the draw ability, you're more likely to get into a situation where this is possible.

You apparently don't realize the point of deck building and think this card is going to be splashed in a 60CTH deck. Which would actually be viable for the mere fact that it's a +0.

Hmm. I suppose you raise a valid point, if only through comparison. I don't think this card is one that would be splashed, per se, but the fact that there is only one 1800 ATK monster with piercing does raise some concerns.

Your post is very constructive and useful, at the least. Thanks. I'll see if I can think on any edits.

The card is simple, since it pretty goes for an easy +1 for it's first use. Uses after that should be worth it with the poor Defensive stat. This doesn't make me think it's underpowered, but just make it only have a one-time use. Maybe to contradict it's free draw, you can choose to discard a card in the beginning of your opponent's Battle Phase to have it not be able to be destroyed by battle until that turn's End Phase? That's just my opinion on it. It would be alright / decent as it is.

Goldenboy: Thanks, I'm glad you like it! As for Days of the Black Apple, it's been so long since I worked on it that I just don't feel like I can pick up such a vast and detailed project and continue it. At least, not at this point; for the time being, Days is on an extended, indefinite hiatus. At least until I find my notes and the next couple of chapters I had typed up! In the meantime, I'll be getting back into the flow of writing with a new project, End of Days.

Anbu: Oh dear, another "simple" card, huh? I will have to check out some of your work sometime soon, I'm sure it's composed of cards with long, unplayable effects. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well I'm looking forward to your new project your writing was some of the best on YCM and on your comment to AoS actually he does use a lot of long effects on his cards. But they're pretty usable in some sense.

Goldenboy: Aww, thank you! That's quite a weighty compliment, and I appreciate you taking the time to make it. It's comments like that that help motivate writers to continue to do their best.

Boss Z: Thanks! I am actually pretty fond of this Winged Beast-Type Deck, as well as the character who uses it. Fortunately, they will appear pretty early on in the story.
