It has the same net effect as Star Robin's own (save a monster by taking all the damage yourself), only you can't then use Battle Fader or something. Heck, even as a plot device it doesn't seem to be very useful, since Star Robin's own effect would have shown the idea the story seemed to portray (as far as I can tell, not understanding Japanese).
