Is this wrong?

Okay, so I was watching the movie The Condemned and I started thinking, "Since many people serve death sentences or get life in prison with no chance of parole, why not make a bloodsport out of it?" Similar to the gladiatorial games of old, these modern day gladiators would fight to the death in jungles, abandoned buildings, and other places that have cameras all over to record the action and broadcast it live via interwebz, and the combatants who show they are insanely awesome will get the option to stay and fight more or to be released from prison. I figure since they're gonna die anyway, might as well give them a chance to get out of jail by doing what got them into prison in the first place.

Now that I'm reading this, I realize I have become a very demented individual.

8th Amendment?
[/quote]
It says no cruel and unusual punishment, but think of it as a creative application of the firing squad execution.

Because that would mean Snuff Reality TV would become the newest crowd pleaser. Think for a moment how many spinoffs American Idol has started. Imagine the chaos.

What person would willingly do it unless they had nothing to lose? That's why I said convicts serving life/death sentences. My reasoning is that since they will spend the rest of their life behind bars, offer them an incentive to participate such as a get out of jail free card. Besides, I'm more or less sure that it happens in other countries illegally.

No one wants to feel pain, and in such a sport, pain would likely come in large amounts. Thus, no one would participate. And ya can't force them cuz of the 8th Amendment. And don't argue that someone would join because "they're so confident that they'll be badass and kill everyone else", cuz s*** like that only happens in movies and videogames.

Murder as a form of real life entertainment? I would say that is wrong. If you argue that it's all for the criminals' benefit in order to get them off death row, then why does it need to be televised? Not that I think we should be offering the worst people in our society, the ones we punished for their crimes by sentencing them to death or life without parole, an opportunity to re-enter society. A chance for parole, if you will, with the admission price being the murder of fellow human beings. Get in too much trouble for killing? Just kill some more people to get out of it.

I've had this idea before, and really, decided against it. Not because it's wrong (if you're in jail for life, you're there for a good reason), but it would make us the same as they are, maybe even worse.

And another thing, why waste them on fights to the death when we could actually use them in tests or something like that. Meaning you give them a choice, either life in prison, or be subjected to various tests, not all medical, mind you. It all comes to the fact if they agree to do this or not.

And on a quick note, there are innocent people jail, many of them serving life.
