Wait so when a person becomes president they are automatically an idiot? Or are you saying that the only people who run for president are idiots?
If its the first one you are a gigantic idiot because there are smart people who have become president that have changed this country for the better and you are only generalizing.
If its the second one, then if a smart person were to run for president wouldn't that solve the problem?

The phrase "American Idiots" has rarely been so apt (even if one is only aware of said phrase due to dreary warblers "Greenday", responsible for my hatred of pseudo-Indie pop since 2006).

Obama has some lovely ideas, like free healthcare (an idea that has saved millions upon millions of lives in the UK alone, not to mention Australia and every other country in the world advanced enough to implement it). The trouble is he is a Democrat and his ideas have to be passed through a Republican-majority congress. So while Republican (or Libertarian) critics pan him for doing nothing, it is because of the Republican-majority congress, not him (this is why the Presidential system is markedly inferior to the better Ministerial Electorate system, but that's another story).

Jobs can be created by public spending. In a time of economic recession, public spending capital can only be generated by raising taxes. Thanks to a Republican-majority congress, no bill that raises taxes will ever be ratified. So Obama has to console the American people through public speaking, and when you have a Republican-majority congress and a media dominated by bloodthirsty right-wing American FOOLS, his every movement is scrutinised, which is why every single day we have Tea Party fundies baying for blood and screaming "We need jobs, not speeches". The truth is, despite America being a secular republic created by intellectuals (including one of the first Atheistic thinkers and one of the best political philosophers of all time), the American people have a pathological hatred of intellectuals (due to association with the British, one postulates). This would be okay, but because of their giant inferiority and "we are chosen" complexes, they scream it from the rooftops.

^FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT RIGHT

Republican: "Obama ur totally useless! DO SOMETHING!!!!"
Obama: "WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?!?! YOU WONT LET ME DO ANYTHING!!!!"

its so obvious and yet every republican you talk to will deny it.

Your forgetting something important:
Taxes reverberate an economy and help it get back on its feet BUT
Too many taxes can drive people to poverty which is a big problem right now.

Republicans want to end poverty but their foolish tax plans will hurt the economy.
Democrats want to help the economy but their constant spending doesn't help and their constant taxes are hurting the people.

In short, both sides suck.

Unfortunately, it is. If Barack hadn't stepped up to the plate and had been voted for President, we would be stuck with a 150 year-old crippled man with teeth falling out every two seconds. Joking aside, I find it incredibly stupid that African-Americans voted for Barack "because dat brother is gonna make thangs right, ya know".

Four years after his election, he promised change. And there has been change, I can see that. And it is the change that is going to ruin this country.
Yes, because all African Americans think the same, don't they.

Devil's Advocate is a racist, generalizing bigot. Or at least that's the impression I'm getting from his posts in this topic.

Fixed. And they are all idiots to boot.

I agree, every African American that voted for Obama is an idiot.
I agree, every Caucasian that voted for [insert white president here] is an idiot.

Yay!

If you didn't fix what we put you in office to fix

The situation is arguably better than the situation in 2008, not to mention he's not a totalitarian leader. He's been trying to pass legislation for three years to fix this country, but he has to deal with a House that is controlled by the Republicans and a Senate that is pretty split, as well. If Obama was a totalitarian leader and everything he said was the word of the law, we might be in a better position right now. But America decided to abandon the idea of a monarchy or an oligarchy, so here we are.

And you know what the worst part is? People are going to vote for a Republican this time around because they "don't want a Democrat in office". I don't know where this logic stems from, but apparently people think conservative economic policies are going to be better for this country. If we elect any of the Republicans and the economy is arguably worse in 2014, I swear to god I'm going to go on a mass killing rampage. There is no proof that conservative ideals are going to help the economy any more than liberal ideals, so we're taking a blind leap of faith throwing Obama out of office. At least Obama has prevented an economy worse than the 2008 one, at least he's been tackling (albeit slowly) the issue of jobs and unemployment.

One of the best quotes I heard was, "America doesn't have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem."

I call it a good quote because it really shows the ignorance of conservatives everywhere. Yes, we have a spending problem, that much I can agree with. But someone making ten million dollars a year can afford to buy seven cars. We might not have a revenue problem, but having more revenue would alleviate our spending problem. Not to mention that the highest tax bracket, sitting at about 40% income tax, is applied to people who make more than half of the income in America. It's unfair that people making millions upon millions of dollars an hour aren't taxed nearly as much as they should be. They make money, great, but that just means they should be willing to give more money away. Is it communistic? Hardly.

Actually Dark, it is communistic. And it's exactly what we need.

Edit: I take that back, it's socialistic, but who gives a damn what it's called.

Tax the hell out of the rich. Not the upper working class like doctors. The true rich people. Hell, grab control of their corporations. If you just raise taxes they'll raise their prices and the working class consumers will still be the ones who suffer.

Socialism has become too much of a negative buzzword when it should be in comparison to "liberty" or whatever.

I think you've centered your analysis around your country a bit too much, under the assumption that most Americans care about the UK enough to formulate opinions off of it, but otherwise I agree with most of that.

One problem with free healthcare is the lack of spearheaded and naturally compounding medical advancements, which currently globalized countries don't have to worry about when they can simply mimic the result of capitalist-spurred medical development in the US. There's a number of ways to solve that, and rather easily IMO, but it's still a noteworthy point on why other countries can pull off free healthcare far easier.

I agree. However, Republicans, hell even the senate for that manner may not go for it. I can assume many democrats and republicans have had the idea, but dont have the balls to put it forth.

Except that's his job. At least, that's pretty much why we elected him this time. (That or people decided we needed a black president for once, which is terrible logic)

So now it's comproved, Brazil has terrible logic. The most voted deputy of last election was A CLOWN.

In short, you are completely politically blind. You were probably taught the "taxes drive people to poverty" thing by whatever fundie nutbags teach or raise you (no offence intended). If you had read my post (and knew anything about Far-Left political theory), you may have noticed that one proclaimed that we should tax only the rich heavily. Do you think Oil Barons are going to be "driven to poverty" by higher income and inheritance tax?

Great Britain, a country ravaged by the Second World War, a country having to deal with the Irish situation, a country that was still rationing - that Britain managed to pull off the best free healthcare system in the world. Of course America can do it. Your hypothesis about the marketed healthcare systems in America is an interesting one. Most of big pharma's main players are European (GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, Bayer, Sanofi, AstraZeneca, Hoffman-La Roche and Teva, to name a few) and more R&D is done outside of the US than you would think.

And don't think that free healthcare means either the nationalization of pharmaceutical companies or the death of them. GSK and Astra are thriving here in the UK.
