Apostle of Calamity
So while I was watching the latest Republican Debate on CNN I asked my Boyfriend that if he could have a past US president be US president once again who would he have? He responded by saying he felt we needed a president who was steadfast in his beliefs and always tried his hardest and with the right policies and said he would like John Tyler to be president again. I feel that Abraham Lincoln would be a good pick for president as his economic policies were very good during his time. Now for my question... If you could have a past US president be president again who would it be and why? You have to imagine that the presidents are fully updated on current politics otherwise this wuestion would be faulty. SO BLOODY HELL GET GOING! Catterjune
Anyone but Reagan. Nah but seriously, just about no one pre-civil rights era. They were all racist old curmudgeons who's ideas only died when they finally died. Which limits me to Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush Sr, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama, and I'd rather not have any of them.

Mehmani
Thomas Jefferson would be a good bet, as he was one of the first Atheistic philosophical thinkers (which made him visionary as he was able to exclude the religious ideals that impeded a lot of philosophy in that time) as well as being the main architect of the world's first secular republic. His writings are absolutely fantastic and I'd recommend them to anyone.

[/quote] Hmm. I am iffy about this one. He was a good president but I felt that the League of Nations was a stupid idea and it also gave rise to the United Nations which I seriously dislike. DARKPLANT RISING
The topic title reminds me of the very concept of Ptolemy's Gate from the Bartimaeus Trilogy. Good series. Really good series. OT: I'd want to see how good George Washington REALLY was at politics. You never hear anything bad about him, so I wanna see the truth. He wanted them free but he woulod have lost support because of it. People had slaves back then f*cking deal its over with, not everyone back in those times had the same ideal we did. Back then a white person having a slave was considered normal.

DARKPLANT RISING
That makes sense. Well, in that case, I'd want to see what all the politicans who agreed on the Emancipation Proclamation will do if they still lived. What Tentacruel said sorta made these people "even better", if that makes any sense.

The Amazing Avian
Clinton. His was the only recent term in which the country actually started paying off the debt. Actually I would just want the taxation cap completely removed and progressive taxation (Tax brackets). Honestly if Republicans weren't such pricks about paying taxes, we would not be 15 trillion dollars in debt.
Yankee
So, time for my honest post. Most other presidents would be horrible now. They were great during their times, and had different laws and standards set for them. Could you imagine Teddy Roosevelt nowadays? Things are different now, and many past presidents just simply were not the kind of people to cope with what we are now. However... Clinton seems like the easiest choice. He's recent, and did a good job. He's also not the only president to have fun with an intern. Every president did...he got caught.
