Verz Bahamut Archtype - Diablos

Recommended Posts

Good grief I never come in here. Anyway... If you're the sort of person who actually ever goes in Finished Sets, and did so around Halloween last year, you might remember these guys. The Diablos were the third archtype I made here and were considered by some to be the best cards I had made so far (and probably ever did, don't think I've been as good as I was when I started. But thats neither here nor there.) These cards were also used by a character I made for my one and only visit to the RP section, but the RP quickly died and these cards were considered to the cursed graves of the forgotten...

Until now...

Wanted to remake these ever since the new Xyz mechanic was introduced, and since I'm soon to be co-hosting/helping an RP, my old character is coming back with his old cards... for a new generation of Xyz. The archtype is a lot stronger this time, so I would like some feedback on them before crushing people with fear in the RP with overpowered cards.

The Diablos: Strategy and Goal
The Diablos use a lockdown strategy, placing Fear Counters on weaker monsters that are summoned by the opponent. By successfully 'scaring' a weakened monster with these counters, various actions the opponent can make are blocked until the next End Phase. By lshutting down spells, traps, searching for cards and summoning big monsters, the Diablos can then attack in safety. Spells are used to swarm for the new Xyz monsters, and Traps are designed for protection. Further support might come in terms of manipulating Fear Counters for other means.

The main changes since last time are the Diablos have much higher ATK, giving them more chance to use their effects. They also activate when the target monsters are summoned now rather than themselves, making them able to use their effects more than once. Their Field Spell has also been improved. You can view the original set using a link in my signiture to compare if you wish.

Monster Cards cannot be Set face-down. When your opponent Summons a monster; the summoned monster loses 200 ATK and DEF for each Diablos monster you control. While this card is face-up on the field, Fear Counters are not removed from the field if you control no Diablos monsters, and when a Diablos monster attacks a Defence Position monster that has a Fear Counter; inflict piercing Battle Damage to your opponent.

Then if your opponent controls a monster with ATK lower than the summoned monster: Place 1 Fear Counter on that monster (max 1). This effect is considered as the effect of the summoned monster. A monster summoned this way cannot attack, and is Banished during your End Phase.

Feedback
What I could really use feedback on is the effect Fear Counters have on the monsters. Is stopping attacks AND effects too much? They don't stop effects that trigger on summoning or in Graveyard, so that might be enough to balance but unsure. Also with Gateway, Resurrection and Curse; do their effects make sense as triggering Diablos effects? Are they needlessly complicated given when Diablos monsters effects usually activate, or are they okay? Or should I just go back to the original idea of the Diablos monsters 'scares' one monster when its summoned?

So as you can see, CnC would be much appreciated.

- Curse of the Diablos:
When a "Diablos" monster you control is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard [s]as a result of battle[/s]: Target the monster that destroyed it; Place 1 Fear Counter on the targeted monster (max 1). The activation of this effect is considered as the effect of the destroyed monster. [s](Monsters with a Fear Counter cannot attack and their effects are negated. If there is no Diablos monster on the field; remove all Fear Counters on the field).[/s]

I find redundant to type the effects of Fear Counters on Trap Cards because the Diablos monsters already have the effects that "activate" them.

- I see the second name(s) of your monsters are in spanish language, and I want to point out that "Grande Lucero" is a misspell. Probably you attempted to type "Grand Luster" or something similar, so it should read "Gran Esplendor" or "Gran Fulgor".

-"Diablos Dragon" is Dragon-type. Was this intentional? Because then it might have some incompatibilities with the rest of "Diablos".

- Answering your first question: Yes, I find that negating both attacks and effect it's too much. I would stick with negating attacks only, the logic being that the monster is too scared to attack, but can still try to activate its inner powers to defend himself.

- Finally, this is something more personal, but aren't there enough DARK-Fiend archetypes out there already (Dark Worlds, Steelswarms, Archfiends, etc.)? I find said combination unoriginal. Your archetype being named "Diablo", they could be FIRE-Fiend monsters for a change; you could even create a few 200-DEF "Diablos" for Rekindling synergy.
