Soul Taker

Recommended Posts

Life points doesn't matter, right? Well, in almost all cases, yes.

I'm debating with Klavier if this little card is good. I mean, it's a free, generic 1 for 1 removal, with a Upstart clause. People may say Smashing Ground is better, but to be honest, I don't think so. This can hit any threat. And in a deck like Gishki, where Rai-Oh kills the deck with it's ability to lock down deck searching, 1 for 1 removal is very important. People play Uppstart Goblin, and don't complain about the 1000 LP for the opponent, so why people with decks that can make room for 1 for 1 removal don't play Soul Taker?

It's an ok card, but I rather use it with Simochi/Reficule.

As far as perks go, it is a generic 1-for-1 removal card that lets you choose what to destroy. However, these days the game has a lot of swarming, and so picking your target is becoming less valuable, especially when considering alternatives like Smashing Ground, which due to some monsters having higher stats, you'll usually end up destroying the same target anyway.

Giving your opponent 1000 LP is where this card becomes questionable. Against Lightsworn, 1000 LP matters a LOT. Against other Decks, 1000 LP makes a difference between having a dead Solemn Warning and a live one. LP doesn't seem that important, but if you give your opponent LP indiscriminately, you may end up losing the duel in the long run.

Most people will prefer the removal without the LP compensation, and that's why Smashing Ground is considered superior.

If it where a quick-play, It'd actually be good to a certian extent that it'd be a bit of a swiss army knife. Should be able to destroy Face-downs, though

You could say 'if only it was a quick-play it would be better' about almost any normal spell card. It's silly.

If you really want a qps that badly, use Offerings to the Doomed (except that sucks, obviously).

If Paradox Draw from the anime were real, I'd totally use a Deck with 3 Offering and 2 Reckless. (Just for those who don't remember him: Paradox Draw makes players draw during their opponent's Standby Phase rather than during their own.)
