Fusion X. Denver
As I'm driving out of the plaza into the congest Sunday traffic clouding the exit, worn-out and tired of grocery shopping and other errands, I see cars in front of me opening their windows and giving money to these firemen holding a boot. Thinking it was for charity, I pull up and realize it's just fund-raising for their department. Still, I had stopped and thought one dollar couldn't hurt, so I pulled one out. Unfortunately, the wind blew out two bills from my wallet to the ground. The guy offered to give it back, but me not wanting to hold up the traffic behind me and thinking $2 wasn't bad, I said he could keep it. He looked down to the bill grinning and asked if I was sure, which I gave a hurried yes and drove away. My sister tells me I'm an idiot as we pull away because that was a $20. And the guy knew I didn't realize. Discuss times jerks have screwed you over.
Darth Revan of the Sith
It was for a good cause at least How do you know he knew you didn't know? What if he thought that you were talking about the 20 dollars? That is why he probably picked it up because he felt 20$ was a bit too much. Then you said he could keep it so he took it with a smile. Admiral Tim
Guy working at the counter at Mc donalds accidentally kept some cents. (It was only twenty five or so.) I got home showed my mom the receipt and the change and she got enraged that I didn't get the correct change... Though it was only 25 cents. Cin
Had to wait 10 minutes in Savers to get 11p...wouldn't have minded, but it was the change of the Assistant Manager where I volunteer. Sometimes when I'm at the till when I volunteer, I get customers telling me to put the change in the charity box, sometimes upto £1.50, so I always double check if they're sure. Expelsword
When he said "are you sure", he was acknowledging that it was not a mere $2. It, sadly, is not him ripping you off. At the very least it goes to a good cause. Won't you feel amazing when your house catches fire and they put it out quickly with a brand new hose your own $20 helped furnish? Hydra of Ages
What's funny is that I was confused by that story for a while until I remembered all American currency is green. Canadian currency comes in different colors for every denomination to avoid problems like that. Also I forgot there was an American two dollar bill for some reason. In any case, my story comes from a different angle- I was a cashier and a customer demanded his change, even though I was a hundred percent certain I'd already given it to him. I explained this. He refused to acknowledge it. I counted out my entire till and, surprise surprise, I had the exact amount of cash left that I should have had. He cleared off when I threatened to get a manager to call him on his bull.
