Abuse of Power

People, people...it was a joke. A prank inspired by the joke other members had pulled earlier, involving YCMaker's glorious return and mass bans to all infidels or whatever it was.

If I recall correctly, the targets of the joke were big-name members, people whose bans would immediately attract attention and add credibility to the idea that no one is safe. These people should already have some method of contacting other prominent members, so that the mild chaos could spread, as well as reassurances that this was probably a joke. It's not like random newbies (who would probably be significantly more troubled by a website rejecting them) were banned for no reason.

In fact, some of the people were well-involved in the YCMaker thing before and would either find great amusement at the event, or would be stunned that it was actually happening.

Did it go too far? Maybe a little. I'm not sure how many people got hit. For the record, I only banned 1 person (Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon, and purely because no one would ever suspect me in that, and Cifer liked the irony), because I don't particularly find much personal amusement in random or unjustified bans, and I was already advocating that anyone involved keep a list of all the members they banned, to make it easier to undo without forgetting anyone.

This wasn't a joyride of our mod powers or anything. It was an hour or two of screwing around, and while you members get the luxury of doing and saying stupid things, evidently the mod team must never join in. So we're damned either way, aren't we? If we join in on fun or pranking, we're not doing our job or we're abusing power. If we crack down hard on members, we're killjoys. Or a******s.

It's not my idea of "good fun", but for a one-time thing that'll probably NEVER be repeated, I think it was funny. A little overdone, but funny. If not the execution, the IDEA was funny.

If you got upset by it, I can fully sympathize with being upset over random bans with no explanation. Even though the "YCMaker banning people at midnight" was highly publicized and you should probably have had contact with people who were aware that others were affected. But after the fact, you should probably have calmed down and viewed it as the joke it is, and sure, claim it's not funny and receive the apology or suitable compensation.

But then let it go. There's nothing left to gain from it. We could theoretically have destroyed this site a dozen times over and never have.

PS: Although, Relius/Black, dude, that's terrible to hear, and I'm glad that nothing severe happened as a result of the prank.

evilfusion with his/her eloquence described everything I wanted to say and better than the terribad English I could ever bring up.

Listen to evilfusion.

But all in seriousness, yes, Relius and Order-Sol were the ones we should kind of feel bad about.

As for myself, I hadn't talked to them before and didn't know what they were up to.

Considering how much you hated it when I let the members know, yes. ;)

You're fighting a losing battle, sir.

I hated that you'd use it as part of your argument when I was saying it in jest.

You're right, but for different reasons than you think.

Considering the Rag part, I'm still not buying it ;)

Oh are you still going?

And it's Rag. If I don't get angry at him, YCM really will terminate.

I agree with everything you're saying, so I don't want to give you that impression, but that's essentially the definition of what it's like to be a boss.

Good plan, doing now.
