Inflict 200 points of Direct Damage to your opponent's Life Points.

This card is amazing. First of all, the extremely beautiful art style, which GEPD has nothing on.

Secondly, dear god this card is splashable. I mean, Life Points are so important in today's metagame. Everyone should run 3 copies for 600 damage! 600!

Last of all, this card's effect is sooo good.

Have a pleasant, partial, youthful, amending, predatorial, riveting, intelligent, long, fulfilling, ongoing, overly long, striking discussion at you!

Sparks is the best card.

Also Soul, he couldn't have summoned Gorz...

Why couldnt he have summoned Gorz? Doesnt Gorz have that other effect?

OT: Card is horribly overpowerd. Worse than TGU, and every single copy of it needs to burn.

REAL OT: Sucks.

I can introduce amazing cards using better logic.

Hello everyone, today let's take a look at this very wonderful card that is guranteed to work in 3's in any known deck. Its name is - Sparks.

Inflict 200 points of Direct Damage to your opponent's Life Points.

Now, as in the case with Harpie's Feather Duster and Pot of Greed and such, the shorter the text, the better the effect. Sparks inflicts a devastating 200 points of damage to the opponent's Life Points.

200 points of damage means that the second you draw this, your opponent's original Life Points immidiatly turn to 7800. Meaning, it becomes much easier for you to gain victory - even if both players fight equally from then on, this gap of 200 points can easily lead to a table-turner.

Burn has always been a good option, and right now its usefulness is rising and rising. In this format where everyone is running the Solemn Trio, and many power-cards are on the loose, Life Points are often trashed about. In fact, all the tournament duelists claim that Life Points "don't matter until they hit 0". Now, that's quite true in this metagame, and thus, effects that can deal lots of damage have become overall more powerful. Sparks is most definitely one of them.

Another aspect that makes Sparks good is the fact it's a Spell Card. While powerful monsters that inflict effect damage do exist, such as Volcasaurus and Black Corn, they're prone to effect negation from Effect Veiler and Evolzar Dolkka, both often used tournament-level cards. And Trap Cards require a turn of set-up, so they're somewhat too slow in this speedy format. Magic Cylinder, the mortal rival of Sparks, is now extremely inferior this format due to the existance of Inzektors. While Magic Cylinder and such can be destroyed by Hornet, resulting in more advantage for the opponent, Sparks is a Normal Spell, meaning you can use it without any fear of being destroyed by Hornet.

Some people still claim Sparks is a bad card, quite possibly due to problems of card advantage. However, one should never forget that even Foolish Burial and One for One are also -1 cards, much like Sparks. No one would deny their usefulness in any format, and so card advantage doesn't stand as a reason to not run this. Especially in this card's case, where the damage could quite possibly win you a duel.

Sparks is a definate staple this format - in fact, it could even be the symbol of this format, much like Tour Guide and Inzektor Dragonfly. If you plan on facing the world, be sure to check your deck and run 3 copies of this wonderful card.

I have one question....what about Ookazi? It deals 800 damage, instead of 200

Ookazi is really bad because it's burning a house.

Children could be harmed.

Ookazi should never be used over Sparks! Inflicting 800 damage with just one card is cruel! Only truly evil duelists would ever run Ookazi.

Yes, you need to show respect for your opponents and for your cards, always.
