Scaling Packs: Evening The Playing Field or Stealing?

Recommended Posts

I just had this conversation with a fellow duelist who said he was going to start scaling packs, and I was a little put off by that statement. Yes, I know some collectors do scale packs, but is it morally right? I know asking a forum about morals will probably get me a lot of backlash, but I'm just wondering what you guys think.

Does it even the playing field for collectors, or does it steal opportunities from the people who buy regular packs?

It is bad that I have no clue what this means?

Super and secret rare cards weight more due to their foil, thus making the pack weigh more. If you have a sensitive enough scale, you can tell which ones have them.

However, due to the embossing, ultimate rares actually weight less, iirc.

My friend and I scaled...but now we think Order of Chaos packs are rigged. The scale was PERFECT with Photon Shockwave. But with Order of Chaos, it was all out of whack yo.

i agree, some ORCS boxes had less holos than regular boxes, me and my friend had that happen with our ORCS boxes

OT: like Damage Inc. my local store has their cards behind the counter, and they don't allow scaling of packs at all.

Most shops do this. I dunno if it can be called stealing per se, but it's blatant dishonesty to cherry-pick a box of its holos and to proceed to sell the remaining packs as if they had anywhere near the value of unscaled packs.

If you must buy packs, get them from special editions or better yet, sealed boxes. Then you can scale the packs yourself and turn your own profits if you can sell off the packs without holos somehow. This is why aggregations of packs sell for so much less per pack than boxes, scaling's not quite universal knowledge but it's close.

...my scaling is the exact opposite.

I'm 12/12 on ORCS scales.

I'm 4/10 on Shockwave...

It's odd. We had a pack with only a rare weigh 20.12. Then another pack with only a rare weigh 20.50. And all the foils were random in between. Like, wtf?

You don't scale HA. Rarity distribution between the packs is all the same: 4 Super + 1 Secret, unlike in regular packs. If there's any difference in weight it'll be minute that it might actually ve an error in your scale.

I never buy packs anyway, but I might 'borrow' a scale from my school's lab and buy some packs to prove the theory myself. As a starting point, what's the average weight of a regular booster without foil?
