When you compare the possible contributions of the main cards in the loop, Elma contributes the least to the game. Gearfried is an 1800 Level 4 Warrior with an effect that has some interesting, although not necessarily "good" combos wth things like Blast with Chain and Smoke Grenade of the Thief. It also has support in terms of Release Restraint and Gearfried the Swordmaster. Elma's only reason to exist outside the loops is for Guardian Elma, a painfully subpar card in its own right. Gearfried's effect actually limits some of the abuse it can inflict. Neither of them are broken on their own, but together they combo infinitely, and Elma simply has no place in the game. Even if you ignore Gearfried's combo, there may still be other cards or combos that can abuse Elma, and very few of the same can be said for Gearfried. Do people actually enjoy playing this deck and ones like it? They get results obviously. But do they ever actually, genuinely enjoy duelling that way? Elma can be used in vylons,scraps,inzektors and other stuff and can make them tier,but gearfried is just badbadbadbad on even semi competitive levels. [/quote] Elma's potential for abuse pales compared to practical applications. It's a bad card, but has a bunch of ways to abuse it, and all the abuse focuses on its ability to return to the hand if destroyed. Inzektor comes to mind as being hilariously capable of abusing the everliving hell out of it by using Dragonfly, Hornet, and this as a variation of the Gigamantis combo. The amount of advantage they could gain by blasting Elma with Hornet is absurd, and they already can gain a ton of advantage by blasting other Inzektor cards like Zektcalibur. Elma would make things worse. It contributes so little because abuse is all it's good for. Gearfried is a fun card with fun, although outdated combos and Gearfried the Swordmaster is similar. Both Elma and Gearfried are mediocre or bad, but of the two, Elma remains useless EXCEPT to abuse it. And a card that's only practical use is to use abusive combos does not deserve to ever return. evilfusion Posted April 29, 2012 Report Share Posted April 29, 2012 Oh wow, I didnt even think of re-equipping this to Dragonfly. I was thinking of equipping to the Centipedes for 2 Deck searches. Zektcaliber does a SIMILAR combo, but Elma is a reusable Equip for Hornet to nuke, whereas Zektcaliber is a one-time use that replenishes 1 Inzektor from Grave. Missing the timing for this is going to be irrelevent for the majority of uses it has.
