Obviously, in an official tournament, misplaying is a giant deal. You can screw up your entire turn just for making one mistake, as you can't take it back once it's "recorded". I have plenty of times made mistakes, especially since I keep hopping in and out of the game, and tend to play when I'm very tired. Though I do want to know what officialy, in a tournament, constitutes playing a card. If you have your hand on the card and make no other moves, is that still considered a play if it's touching the field, or can you take it back like in chess?

However, what about casual duels, duels monitored only by you and your opponent? Misplays always suck, but if your opponent is lenient, they don't have to destroy you. In other words, I'm talking about letting your opponent take back a play they had made. Of course, if they had screwed everything up and 5 moves later they decide "I didn't want to do any of that", or after they attack into a Mirror Force they decide "I don't wanna attack, actually", you can't just let them do that. But what are your thoughts on misplaying, and how much you should let the opponent get away with? None? A few? As much as they require?

I make a lot of misplays, but I also let people get away with quite a few take-backs. What inspired me to make this thread is when I had forgotten to change a monster's Battle Position once the turn started, and instead of swinging for game he said "No, you can't change your monster's position." Even though he literally said GG once my turn started. He had too much pride and just HAD to win. I have personally never refused a game-ender for the sake of going "lol I win". However, I'm sure many of you have a different view on the matter.

That reminds me that lately, for the first time in my life, I have been activating the wrong card because I'm not even looking at it. Like when my opponent Summoned I used MST instead of TT.

Though this also reminds me of a funny story where my opponent used some card effect to put a card on the top of his deck (don't remember what), then he Set it without even looking at the card. I attacked it, and turns out it was a Spell Card. Ha!

I train in martial arts.

If you make a mistake and don't defend yourself properly, you get hit.

Funnily enough, you don't make the mistake again :P

I say this as someone who only duels casually and very rarely (which is probably why I'm horrendous for making mistakes with card effects and stuff) and I make a lot of them. It's just a duel by duel basis and depends on your opponent, and you kindof recepricate what they give you in my experience. I've found most opponents I have duelled here from YCM have been very tolerant of me doing stupid stuff, they're all "you can take it back" and such, and I'm all really British and "no, I've made the mistake and I'll pay for it" and so on. I'm going to lose anyway. If someone misplayed against me I'd offer the same, but people don't misplay against me.

Seeing people who humiliate and display those who make such honest mistakes pisses me off though, one person in particular springs to mind. Happens to everyone.

Once tried to Offering OTK by flipping up BTH and asking if it was game. Just re-set it and activated Offering anyway, but yah.

I tend to just go through with any miss-plays I make. I feel that one learns better when they see the impact their mistake has, and it stops you making it in future. I'm fine to let my opponents re-take moves most of the time though, if they really want to and/or it'd actually make a difference, unless they've already affected the game-state, obviously.

Of course, I'd never let anyone do that at tournament level.

This, so much this.

When I play, very rarely and only against Yuzuru most of the time, I make so many mistakes it isn't funny. He's usually (read: always) willing to let me take them back since I do realize my mistakes almost instantly, but I've taken to telling him no unless I'm trying to get a feel for the deck still.

As long as someone hasn't gone, say, 5 moves ahead THEN said they want to take something back, I'm usually fine to let them.

No, but really, I prefer to have my opponent not take it back, makes them learn so they don't do it again.

When playing Chain Burn the other day, I more than once stupidly set the burn cards the same turn I played One Day of Peace, meaning I have winning cards now dead on the field until my next turn that can be Heavy'd my opponent's next turn. Thankfully, my opponent didn't Heavy them.

I once Set Battle Fader in my S/T Zone without realizing, then next turn, opponent makes OTK field and I couldn't find my Fader until after they swung for game.

THAT has to be awkward.

I can't count the number of times I've lost a chance to win because I fail at math and don't realize that I can win by summoning before I attack.

50% of my duels in a nutshell. Most of the times, I don't even do the maths...
