As expected, everyone is already thinking about what they can add to their deck to battle the up coming back row heavy format. There has been talk about Night Beam, which is a solid choice, but I believe the best card to battle S/Ts this upcoming format (assuming the Ban List is legit) is Forbidden Lance...Here is my reasoning. Unlike Night Beam, Lance can be chained....meaning we are not forced to "Blind Beam" cards on the field and hope we got the right one. In addition to being chain-able Lance protects your monsters from additional S/Ts for the rest of the turn meaning we are safe from any follow up answers your opponent may have. Being a Quick Play, we can set Lance and use it for protection during our opponent's turn. Lance can be used as an answer to big monsters and for Damage Step shenanigans. So in general....Lance is the better utility card and IMO deserves the deck space over Night Beam....sure Night Beam pops the card...but if the list is real we are heading into a format where 4 cards in the back row is going to be very common...hitting 1 card may not make much of a differences. So YCM...do your thing and discuss.
Zeppeli Gyro Supreme
Lance won't save you from Warning/Judgment, or your other monsters from Torrential Tribute.
RyanAtlus
I think Forbidden Garment will see a lot of play as well, taking the place of Lance in some Decks. But untill we get that, Lance might be the better choice, seeing as we might see a rise in the use of chainable Traps.
-Griffin
They do different things. Night Beam protects your setup/plays from interruption especially counter-traps like Solemn. Lance protects your bossmonster.

Toffee. Personally, I like Lance better, but this will likely end up being a user-preference sort-of-thing, as both have their own rules and uses.
El Majishan
Lance won't save you from Warning/Judgment, or your other monsters from Torrential Tribute.
And Night Beam will save you form a Warning/Judgment? If you hit it, sure thats great...but its still a guessing game and we have 3 MST for that. And we have Trap Stun for when we wish to make big pushes.
Just Crouton
Lance is better. Aside from making your monsters immune to Dark Hole, etc., it seconds as a way to make your monsters swing around bigger monsters. Personally, I'm on the fence about whether Shroud or Lance is better.

Dwarven King
Just summon Hanzo, search for Super-Transformation, then set five. :
Some people say it's a cost, but it's not, as the rulings state something about the cards not being on the field after resolving. During the resolution of the card, it will still attempt to send the monsters, but monsters not accounted for do not count for the Level of the summoned card. newhat
Super-Transformation has no cost, and it doesn't say "those targets", so Hanzo goes to the Graveyard, then if you have a Level 4 or lower Kaiju to Summon, you Summon it. I like to think of these as alternatives to MST, and as an alternative to MST, Night Beam isn't particularly good against the common Trap lineup, whereas Lance is good against Bottomless, Torrential, Book of Moon and Dark Hole. I prefer Lance.
Night Beam's used to blow away backrow permanently. Lance does not take care of that problem, but does assure you a failsafe way OUT of backrow. I don't feel that either are compareable, but that's only because the outcome should be obvious that Lance is better because it's also as flexible as Book of Moon. .Rai
If I had a few slots left in a deck, I'd probably go for Lances, but frankly because it's better usage of those last two slots than Night Beam is. I can't see any valid comparisons between the two personally.
