"What if" Yugioh

Recommended Posts

To be honest, I'm not even sure this is a legal topic, but I'll take the chances.
This is a hypothetical change in the.. well, partially in the list, but it goes a bit beyond that.

Long story short, I've recently been making outdated decks IRL (so far "Dark Scorpions", "Sacred Phoenix", and "Goat Control"), and I got a bit nostalgic with them, so this is mainly an attempt to slow things a bit.

-All cards currently limited or semi-limited, are now banned.
-All cards currently banned, stay banned.
-The new limit to the number of copies you can have of a card in your Deck is now 2 (Exceptions might happen for cards that specifically call for your having 3, like 3 "Thunder Dragon" for the Fusion, and "Nimble" monsters, 3 "Mokey Mokey" for the king, etc. Though that will depend on the impact they'd have in comparison to the new rythm of play).
-Monsters Special Summoned from the Extra Deck cannot attack during the turn they are Summoned, unless you shuffle 1 card from your hand into the Deck.
-Heavy Storm may stand alone as a sole exception for a Limit. (can't get rid of it, but I wanna hear opinions)

My goal here is for consistency to go down a little without getting to the extreme of having a bunch of techs for a Deck.
While it is true that consistency is a key factor of the game that reduces the luck needed to play, too much consistency is not as fun. If games take 3 or less turns of each player for them to end. If a combo can repetitively pop out from the first hand in a constant basis. Then it is a bit too consistent.

One of the things I noticed of my "Goat" Deck, is that my hand didn't really emptied easily; rather, I had to save some cards for later use. They weren't "dead draws", they were simply cards I'd use in a few more turns. The Deck had decent synergy, but it wasn't just one big combo called a "Deck". Not saying the current format is "too fast" or "too much", because I don't really play any top tier Decks. I just know "Rabbit", "Dark Worlds", "Chaos Dragons", "Wind-Ups", "Hieratics", "HEROs", "Inzectors" are the popular current Decks, and that the top tiers are among those.... anyways, I tried to achieve the same sort of effect. At least, to a degree.

I want comments/opinions on the change, and mainly suggestions about what changes are bad and why, and what other changes would be good to add/replace existing changes with.

Finally, I made only Extra Deck monsters require a turn, to give Rituals a bit more of a chance, but I don't know s*** about Gishikis, so I also wanted to ask about how I could even them out in here.

Oh, yeah. Also:
I didn't completely lock Extra Deck monsters' attacks, just took away some card advantage in exchange as a possibility. There might be some Decks that benefit from this, other than "Assault Mode/".

A format within Mega-Banned Format.

This would make Gladiator Beasts much more powerful.

Hmmm...so in short:

Banned cards are banned.
Limited/Semied are ALSO banned.

New limit on cards allowed in both Side and Main/Extra Deck = 2 (although there are exceptions).

Extra Deck monsters are a bit slower.

If the new ban list comes out with Inzektors, Chaos Dragons, Hieratic/Gishkies, Wind-Ups, and to some degree Heros getting hit, then this may be quite a way to play a format.

Gladiators come back but the lose Gyzarus and Bestiari so they'll go into a new form of Deck formation, Blackwings see plays but won't be AS field oriented as they used to be, old tire decks such as Disaster Dragon will tend to be used in combo with other archtypes, such as Lightsworns, Regular Rituals may see play with the Djins more often, and Xyz/Synchro Spam decks have their OTK/advantage problems resolved making the decks more balanced.

*signs up to test* :D
