Komen Thinks More About Its Agenda Than Stopping Breast Cancer

This is extremely hilarious. So Pornhub.com. a notorious porn site, has begun a charity run for Breast Cancer. They were willing to donate one cent for every 30 views seen on a video. Well eventually views skyrocketed to 20,000,000 and they made 6,000 dollars in charity and what do they do? They donate it to the Komen foundation, one of the most popular breast cancer awareness foundations.

Problem, Komen rejects it. Komen rejects it under the basis that they feel it is a publicity stunt and refuse the money. Pornhub is now looking for a new recipient.

This is absolutely ridiculous and almost immediately after the incident many Tumblr feminists spoke out against the Charity run feeling it "Sexualises Breast Cancer". The feminists feel it degrades them and the people with the condition and supports Komen's decision, because apparently morals matter more than human lives.

Problem is, do you really want to be associated with a porn website through accepting donations from them? It's a catch-22 for Komen, because if people ever want to criticize Komen in the future they could say "oh, they accepted money from a (possibly illegal?) porn hosting site, so they don't have good morals." Of course, there's a lot of other stuff you can criticize Komen about, such as associating their pink ribbon with unhealthy products and making it into a pure marketing scheme, but in this instance it was more "damned if you do, damned if you don't," and refusing seems to have been the option with the least fallout.

I completely disagree. It was a reliable source and it is legal and reputation should NOT be a factor in the process. They are not a business and they should be accepting donations from whoevergives it to them and not stopping because what people might think about them.

Besides, the only people who would complain if it did happen are Tumblr Feminists and the Concerned Mothers for America.

Except Komen is virtually a business now. They may say that their primary objective is breast cancer research support, but much of that is done through branding. They've turned charity into a somewhat for-profit model, and thus they have their image to uphold. If a company with a moral conservative at the helm disagreed with them (hypothetically) accepting the money and broke off their sponsorship, they'd lose a good portion of what's helping them to run. $6000 is a pittance compared to the $1.5 million Yoplait (as an example) commits to them every year. It's a practice I find deplorable morally, but if you’re running a big business you have to have other interests at mind.

So, they'll refuse to associate with porn sites, but will associate with professional wrestling? They have John Cena running around in pink to promote them.

WWE has, like it or not, a massive global fanbase, a large percentage of which is women.

On the topic of taking money from a porn site: I have to disagree with Mr A on 'they're a charity they must accept money from anyone who offers'. What if a known mafia boss offers money, or a dictator known as a mass murderer (highly unlikely I know but stay with it). If they accepted his money, they are then assosiated with that company and it will, right or wrong, create a stigma that may put off many other people from donating in future. Here in Britain the organisers of the Jimmy Saville Chairty, in light of recent events concerning his alledged paedophilia, are considering changing the name because they fear donations will disappear.

What I want to know is; while I completely get and support the raising awareness and money for Breast Cancer, why isn't a similar deal made for the just as lethal testicular cancer?

At the end of the day money is money and it should be accepted regardless of the source as it doesn't matter who the source was if it saves people's lives/makes life better for ordinary people. By rejecting the money Komen show they obviously don't care about their recipients as much as they care about themselves.

Komen and her pinkwashing campaign are absolutely disgusting.

I'm happy to hear money won't be going to her. It could be better spent on actual research and treatment as opposed to Lawsuits For the Cure

I was about to post how they have a right to do whatever they want, but that just proves they really do care more about their own agenda. They can suck it.
