Broken Card of the Week: Where Arf Thou?

Upon first glance, this looks like one of the most horrible cards to ever have been created. We all know that Level 1 monsters have gotten much more powerful lately, but the condition of already having a Level 1 on the field, and if you don't Normal Summon the monster you added, you'll take 2000 damage make the card very situational. Really, the only point to it would be to add Mystic Piper, right?

Well, until someone brought it up recently in a thread, I hadn't realized until then a set of cards this particular one can abuse--a set of cards that if you're running them, you always want them in your hand.

Yes, the Exodia pieces, save for the head itself, are all Level 1. Not only that, but there are a lot of stall cards that are Level 1, and could very easily be ran in Exodia decks. Let's say... Cyber Valley and Battle Fader? Basically, having these cards on the field gives you an instant Exodia piece. Not bad, eh? This card isn't just good for a single search, though. Stupidly enough, the effect damage is good for Exodia decks, as it gives you immediate access to Hope for Escape's effect.

You summon Cyber Valley, activate some Arfs, and set a Hope for Escape, and your opponent might as well quit right then and there. You take 2000-6000 damage, but they're (not very likely) to deal any damage to you, and you get an immediate 1-3 draws off of your Hope for Escape (more if you set up correctly), and possibly a draw off Cyber Valley too.

If you don't want to take that damage, because your Life Points are too low, you can just drop another card found in the new Exodia arsenal: One Day of Peace. Yes, the card that was meant to stop you from OTKing your opponent while setting up your OTKs can also give you cost-free Exodia searches. Balance.

I've been testing an Exodia deck using this card, and it has won 8 duels and only lost 1, and that's because of a Morphing Jar (which can be sided against). Either the creator of this card was high when he made it, or Konami wants to break Exodia decks once and for all.

Maybe my build was wrong, but I tried to build "piper exodia", and it was horrible.

It's ok, a lot less consistant and fast than other Exodia builds, but it gets the job done and it's a little more interactive.

Seriously. Let's just ban Exodia. How is it not f*cking time yet?
Exodia was the first alternate win condition.
Exodia was the only card to be specifically mentioned in the rulebook.
Exodia is a "classic" card, being in the first booster, and appearing in one of the most iconinc scenes in the anime.

Ergo, according to Konami logic, Exodia will never be banned.

Also, why does everything think Where Arf Thou Exodia is good? At least decks like Empty Jar have a mathematically calculable win rate (which happens to be 69-70%).

Konami themselves have not only given those exact reasons for not banning Exodia, they clearly care enough about the anime that they attempted to create The Seal of Orichalcos to mirror its appearances in the anime. (They botched it yes, but they attempted.)

When did empty jar go all the way up to 70%?
Providing you go first, you have a guaranteeed 70% with an ideal decklist. If you go second, it decreases a bit, but it's not too bad. The chances of you winning the match kinda go down a lot though simply because of side decking, the inevitability that you're not going to go first all the time, misplays and OTKs.

They only did the Seal because it's just another business opportunity. For all I care, I'd rather buy Seals for tournament play. I don't really care about anime (that's just another way to advertise, really).

Moja
Cyber Valley
Uniflora
Kinka-Byo
Fader
Meklords
etc
Out of those, Cyber Valley, Uniflora, and Kinka-Byo are the only ones you would actually summon after you add them to your hand, so you're sacrificing 2000 Life Points to add a card to your hand in a situation where you have a level 1 monster face-up on the field for whatever reason.

Also, to address other people's concerns:
1. It is completely true this card is only broken when used with Exodia, whilst the other broken cards in the deck can be used in their own deck type to search their win conditions together. This card can be used to search for cards, but none of them game-breaking besides Exodia.

2. Where Arf Thou? Exodia is really just like any other Exodia deck. Its conditions are somewhat conflicting, but as far as speed goes, it's greatly increased compared to other, non-FTK Exodia.

3. Exodia is not just "a classic", but actually part of the brand identity known as Yu-Gi-Oh!. It's not just "nostalgia" that holds it in place, but the company's image partially relies on Exodia. They have used its image so much, it's extremely iconic, and even people who have never played Yu-Gi-Oh! know its name or could recognize its image. Basically, if they got rid of it, they would be throwing out their own identity (and some free advertisement).

4. In case anyone was wondering, I am saying this card is broken in its original sense, saying that it serves a function that it shouldn't, and that gives players an unfair advantage.

I'd happily pay 2000 to add a Fader/Veiler/Swift Scarecrow/Granel to my hand.
Id rather add a Wisel than a Granel

Sure, but what is going to be on the field to gain the search?
Mystic Piper/Kinka-Byo/Battle Fader

Piper abuses this card to absolutely no end
