Fusion X. Denver
Two of my friends recently went on a retreat and they said it was an awesome experience and that we had to try it next time. When we asked them what they did, they said it's a surprise and that they weren't allowed to tell us any details. I should mention I attend a Catholic university, so this was a sort of religious, but not necessarily religious type of retreat, if that makes sense. They told me one atheist was in their group and at the end of it all, he said it was a pleasant experience. And they mentioned a lot of people were crying towards the end of it, including them. To say I'm curious is an understatement. Have any of you guys gone on retreats? How were they?
Exiro
How rude of you to just ask such a thing. A retreat is a special experience, and there's no way you can understand by them simply telling you about it. There are no words to describe it. Great Unclean One: VK
I thought this topic was about the tactical uses of retreating to an area with more advantages or to regroup. Once again YCM, you've disappointed me. Now tell me what the f*** is this definition of retreat?
I think it's a Christian thing, considering I went to a Catholic high school and college and a friend of mine never heard of it until I told him about it. From what I understand, it's when people go away for a weekend and basically bond and have a good time. I never thought much about it until my friend went though, which was why I got curious if other people had fun on their retreats.
Desu the Blue Nerd
You mean they went camping? Cause I'm pretty sure that's what a retreat is since this apparently isn't common knowledge.
Thar
What I thought: Tactical combat maneuver inquiring escaping the enemy's sight for recovery purposes. What I saw: Week long Christian camp. What I have to say: I've been on several in the past, usually just on tech duty. I never cared for its purpose. Nathanael D. Striker
I've went to a few in my time. The last one I went to was last year in October. It was a Weekend thing with a service once on Friday, three times on Saturday, and once on Sunday. We had the chance to play games, have a talent show Saturday night, and hang out during free time. It was a good experience. TBH, words can't describe a retreat. The experience changes every time. inb4ishouldnthavesaidthis

FTW (For The Wynn)
Basically, a retreat is kind of like a spiritual vacation in a cabin in the woods. You take in the beauty of nature, you hike, you fish, you hunt, you canoe, etc. and you are supposed to come back spiritually recharged. At least, that's the way I understand it. Never went on one, but my parents and grandparents have, and they enjoyed it quite a bit.
Great Unclean One: VK
Doesn't sound bad, but I don't get how that recharges you spiritually.

Mehmani
It's like a school holiday but with added religion. My old school had a trip to Lourdes every year, I recall.
Yasυ
I've read about them in the classified ads section, the way they were written made me think it was a sex thing. Guess it was way too creepy to be intentional.
