I'd like to know what you guys been using to make awesome portraits and pictures!!

I asked these because of the awesome images I've seen in the realistic cards section, and it got me interested to learn how to make those

look at this awesome card I just found at YuGiCo.com, I'd like to learn how to draw like this!!

Most people here, from what I've seen, at least, don't actually draw, rather they manipulate pictures and add effects and whatnot.
I have personally started to try Digital Painting, which is likely how that above image was created, and I use Photoshop Elements cuz it came with my Wacom Tablet. The cheapest actually worth getting tablet (pen tablet) would be what I have: The Wacom Bamboo which costs 100 dollars (well, I got it for 70 cuz it was on sale). Though you do not necessarily need a tablet to do that kind of stuff, it makes things a million times easier because you can control pressure like you do in real life.

And also, what Zanda said, most of us just find images online cuz we're lazy like that and not all of us can draw.

I also don't believe this belongs in this section. This is for showcasing your art.

It's a hard craft that takes at least a year to learn. Obviously, none of us draw the stuff on cards.

Personally, I'm quite similar to AixDivadis. Photoshop Elements & a Wacom Intuos5 tablet (probably one of my favourite gifts ever). I have Corel Sketch Pad too, but I'd love to upgrade drawing software sometime: either PS CS6 or Corel Painter.

Drawing imaginative portritures and concepts are even harder than referenced or real life thoughts. YuGiOh! card imagery represent the title of the card (I think? I am not familliar with it) and so more effort and thought is given into each card image because it is a unique card.

There is no easy way out, you have to learn proportionality, fundementals, anatomy of animals, objects and humans with a side note of conceptual ideas.

There are many different programs and mediums you can use. Pen tool is a medium, paint brush is a medium, marquee tool is a medium, etc. For these jobs I prefer to use Corel Painter because you have a more realistic brush and canvas approach, as well as colour mixing. Photoshop would suffice too and will do the job just as fine.
