They are solid cards and always will be. Not really viable in the meta because rather than being the amazing floater that it once was, it might have a chance to be popped by an effect instead. Not to mention if you have a target goal in mind, swarming is common enough that, your opponent will probably know when to stop attacking so that you still end up with a Tomato on the field.

Tomato in particular, is pretty awesome to me, because I own a Dark Scorpion deck that I still think is a lot of fun, and because it's the most common Black Rose fodder for when the situation calls for it.

Well, also because I like tomatoes rather than onions, personally....

Tomato was actually usable in Inzektors as you could either grab the Fly or get Arma Knight and ditch Hornet, and Giant Rat was playable in Geargia. Just because they're not usable now doesn't mean they're still very solid cards and I expect some of them will be used again some time in the future.

They're definitely good cards, I'd even say that Mystic Tomato is one of my favorite cards in the whole game. They're very solid cards. But with destruction by battle so infrequent their usage and worth has diminished greatly. Destruction by battle happens much more rarely now.

The game just isn't in a format where Mystic Tomato can thrive in, same with Giant Rat, Shining Angel, and all his other friends. Mystic Tomato is still the most usable of those searchers, but even with that he doesn't have a consistent engine for him to work with.
