Kuraz the Light Monarch

[Zazubat]

LORE: When this card is Normal or Special Summoned, you can destroy up to 2 cards on the field. For each card destroyed, that card's controller draws 1 card. This card cannot attack during the turn it is Normal or Special Summoned.

 

 

I recently fought Monarchs, so decided to check out their monsters. I found this, and thought it was interesting.

1.Is not a Tribute like most Monarachs, so you can use Level modifiers. It can also activate if SS'ed.

2.Is opional, so you don't have to make your opponent draw/you lose cards, though can miss timing.

3.Says up to, so it's flexable, plus it doesn't target.

4.Is LIGHT so it's a Chaos target.

5.Use CotH and Summon this and destroy itself and CotH (or a useless CotH left over from something else) to draw 2 cards.

6.Is a Warrior, so cards like A Warrior Returning Alive to return it to your hand.

Bad things: Doens't attack, and is a Level 6.

The whole drawing and not being able to attack thing is what keeps the good Monarch Decks from running it. In fact, I think the only reason it's ran anywhere is because you can use it to blow up your cards to let you draw. I heard it's useful in some sort of Banish-Zone oriented drawing Deck, but I don't remember that Deck much.

Anyways, this guy is useful in non-Monarch decks that can actually use his draw ability to the max. Crystal Beasts come to mind, and that's about it, and even then they don't need this guy.

I remember an amazing duel I once had with a dude whose entire deck focused on self destruction, and this card was part of the deck and I saw it used awesomely.

 

So yeah, wish I could see that deck again. That deck made me have faith in this awesome card.

Kuraz was bananas back when we had Premature Burial.
I mean, you basically Pay 800 Life Points to +1 out of nowhere.
Then you had cards like Brionac and Hidden Armory to let you recycle said Premature, and could basically work off a constant stream of +1s until you won off whatever method you wanted.
Of course, that was back in the day.

Use in Crystal Beasts or even Volcanics for /cheap/ draws. That's all I got.

So...you're going to use Premature for a +2 with no battle for loops that really shouldn't exist? (like Gishkies, Felix, etc)

 

Well other than that, it's just one of those monarchs that is mediocre unless it fuels into an FTK/OTK, like the one you've showed me.
