Allure Of Darkness

Recommended Posts

I'd love to chain Mind Crush on Genex Controller on this against Mermails.

Shame nobody plays Undine/Controller any more.

DARK is an over-supported attribute and has too many broken cards to it's name. This should stay @1 forever.

Allure of Darkness is rather overrated and DARK isn't over-supported anymore relative to the rest of the Attributes. The Elemental Dragons and many other modern releases have greatly changed that to the point where DARK is actually one of the weakest attributes in terms of deck relevancy. The only relevant DARK deck that exists now is Verz, and they are mainly good because they have decent match-ups against E-Dragons and Prophecy (both of which are much more powerful decks overall), and the funny thing is, NONE of the top Verz decks play Allure (source: Shriek). Fire Fist, Merlanteans and so on are all far stronger than the nearest DARK deck, and this is probably going to remain true for a long time. Allure can move up.

Just because the top decks don't play it nowadays doesn't mean it's good card design. It's basically a smaller Graceful Charity that gives you Leviair fodder. No thanks.

Something I made regarding Allure of Darkness that might be relevant, given that simply saying '2-for-2 draw card is broken/balanced/degenerate/whatever isn't gonna cut it' as it simplifies the issue --

Let's put it this way -- all draw cards and searchers reduce variance, 'variance' being the randomness that occurs when you play the game with any deck in which you have a hand in building (you can think of it as 'inconsistency', but it's not precisely the same). Now, the degree with which this variance is reduced is compensated by a loss in something (tempo or resources or something else) and/or a restriction in combotastic possibilities to prevent unseemly problems from popping up in the form of OTKs and the like -- Reckless Greed is both a Trap and costs you two Draw Phases; Upstart Goblin lets you draw one card, but your opponent gets 1000 LP (to note how a seemingly puny LP gains impacts the playability of a card, refer to Soul Taker); Duality makes you choose between the top 3 cards in your Deck but disallows you from Special Summoning; Car Dca R D gives you two cards, but forces you to your End Phase. And so on and so forth -- Destiny Draw permits you to draw 2 cards, but only after you discard a Destiny Hero; Cards from Heaven allows you to do the same, but at the cost of discarding a LIGHT Fairy first and forgetting Special Summons for the turn, Cards of Consonance forces you to discard a 1000 ATK or lower Dragon Tuner...

What about Allure of Darkness? For the two cards it gives you, does it make you lose tempo the way Duality or Ca Rdc Ard do? Is banishing a DARK from your hand after you just expanded it a cost or a 'cost'? Are DARKs as scarce as 1000 ATK or lower Dragon Tuners? Or Destiny Heroes? Or LIGHT Fairies?
