During the Battle Phase, when your opponent activates a monster effect: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate that effect, and if you do, inflict 800 damage to your opponent. Once per turn: You can send the top card of your opponent's Deck to the Graveyard.

 

4 Level 5 monsters
When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy it. While this card has "Number 104: Masquerade Magician - Shining" attached to it as an Xyz Material, it gains this effect.
• Once per turn, when a monster effect is activated on your opponent's side of the field: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the activation, then send 1 random card from your opponent's hand to the Graveyard, and if you do, you can halve your opponent's Life Points.

 

Because Shining is badass as hell, and Umbral laughs at you Fiendish Chaining my Rank 4s. Curiously, I've never actually summoned him using Shining.

The first one looks kinda pointless, but the second looks really great!! I'm obviously not very familiar with the Chaos Xyz rulings, so how would one get a Rank 4 onto a Rank 5? Because I know that C39 can be Summoned with just Utopia, but this card doesn't have that in it's text????

Shining is really good for pushes, and is slightly different in its usage to Shock Master, in said pushes. It loves laughing at Gorz. Way too underrated.

 

Umbral is overrated as hell. I've summoned it on Shining before, but more often than not, I'd rather the Multi-Usability of Shining to the single winmoar usage of Umbral. Umbral's really only good because 3000 MST.

After testing them, gotta agree with Gangrel. Shining is actually pretty great, to the point I'm considering running it over Ouroboros in some decks. It deals with a lot of commonly used cards and 2700 ATK is pretty nice. Umbral, while having an impressive effect, it's not hard to play around. Also, you don't get the chance to resolve the first effect very often.
