Field Spell Cards

What do you think about this concept?

 

In my personal and humble opinion, I've never been too fond of them as a concept. There's an idea there, but I don't think they quite completed it.

 

They become either too necessary for a deck's survival, or completely irrelevant, and in the case where they are too necessary, simply putting a new one just kills your opponent's Field Spell in return.

 

Which I understand, is a valid concept of strategy, but this being my personal thoughts, it's not one I enjoy all that much.

I have tried playing with cards like Ojama Country and Skyscrapper, and both existing together doesn't really seem to represent a problem. If anything, it's funny to have a 3000 ATK attacking Clayman out, among other things.

 

Yes I also understand the flavor of "you can't be in 2 places at a time".

Though I feel like the "destroy 1 when another activates" is partially there to justify theme-killing Field Spell effects like Necrovalley existing.

 

So, what are your opinions on Field Spell Cards?

Good or bad mechanic? 

What are the pros and cons you find with them?

You be steeling my thing! JK JK, nobody is restricted to talk about what they want. Now, I do like Field Spells, but I have always hated how they just changed and were more like not the whole field, but only your field. I mean, the games shouldn't put the image on the whole field when only you are gaining the effects. And why not? Your opponent will most likely not have any cards for it anyway, and if they do, then they probably won't bother putting up their own since they can just use yours. I really hope more Field Spells actually interact with the whole field, instead of just benefitting the player, but that probably won't happen.

Yeah, there is also that. Field Spells are pretty much another Archetype-specific feature.

It'd be nice to be able to take advantage of opponents' Field Spells somehow, but most of the time that's just limited to Monster Reborn and controlling a monster to benefit from it.

 

The idea of "we are the home team so we benefit" is there, but still.
