SOUL OF DARKNESS, HOPE OF LIGHT

OVERVIEW

This centered around the cooperation of LIGHT and DARK-Attribute monsters to banish each other. When banished, the lower Level monsters activate mandatory effects, which range from searching to Special Summoning. More powerful monsters can be Special Summoned by surrendering field advantage and simultaneously banishing monsters that the player controls. All monsters require that a monster of the opposite Attribute be banished from the hand or field in order to maintain their field presence. By banishing other monsters, cooperation is generated throughout the archetype.

MONSTERS

The Level 3 and 4 monsters have more preparation-directed effects. The Level 6 monsters can be Special Summoned from the hand or Banished Zone (as to make them not completely dead when banished as a maintenance cost) for a particular drawback. The Level 9 monsters operate similarly to the Level 6 monsters, except their requirement is somewhat harder to meet. All monsters have a similar maintenance cost.​

When this card is banished: Special Summon this card, and increase its Level by 3. This face-up card is also DARK-Attribute. When an Xyz Material(s) would be detached from an Xyz Monster on the field: Banish that Xyz Material(s). Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; activate 1 of these effects depending on the Attribute of the detached Xyz Material. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn your activate this effect. ● LIGHT: Target your banished LIGHT and/or DARK monsters up to the number of your LIGHT monsters currently banished; Special Summon those targets. ● DARK: Target cards on the field up to the number of your DARK monsters currently banished; destroy those targets.[/spoiler][/spoiler]

As the person above me said, this seems like the standard fare where costs are turned into effects, costs are a part of design and nullifying them is bad. Having Judgment Dragon/Lightray-esque bosses is also bad - Boom, a giant bosses out of nowhere - and they can easily create OTKs. Decided to comment cuz it looks like you spent some effort creating these, but I didn't look at them all, just skimmed over them, as don't have time ATM, though I'm not really interested in an archetype like this :/

I'll see about fixing that. I was afraid of this turning into Mermails/Atlanteans.... I'm thinking of having a sort of maintenance cost instead of an effect cost. For example, a monster would require that another monster be banished from the hand in order to keep it on the field each turn. That would prevent costs that are meant to balanced from turning into instant double pluses. That would make it a little bit more like Lightsworns/Koa'ki Meiru than super broken meta. I would just have to take out the "unnecessary effects of the monsters (i.e. Clarence's ATK boost or "Lustria's monster stealing) and replace them with something along the lines of: "During each of your End Phases: Banish 1 LIGHT [or DARK] "Eclipse" monster from your hand or field, or destroy this card." How does that sound? o: Oh, and thank you for commenting!

I'll be sure to go back in and elaborate on the commentaries. Remember that this is all still in the works - these are just the rough outlines for the cards. (: Considering the 20-ish hours that I put into the artworks, those are to stay. ^^

All effects have been changed! Now, instead of additional effects, each Eclipse monster comes with a maintenance cost that calls for an Eclipse monster of the opposite Attribute to be banished from the hand or field each turn. To counterbalance this, the lower Level Eclipse monsters activate certain effects when banished.

 

Higher Level Eclipse monsters no longer have Judgment Dragon-esque Summoning conditions that allow for free, out-of-nowhere boss monsters. Instead, they operate similarly to Ritual Monsters. At least 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK Eclipse monster whose total Level is equal to or greater than the level of the boss monster must be banished for its Summon. When this happens, lower Level "Eclipse" monsters who were banished for the Summon activate their effects. This is a trade off for the deletion of the boss monsters' effects that used to activate when banished while a certain number of other Eclipse monsters were currently banished.

 

In order to prevent higher Level monsters from being rendered useless in the Banished Zone, they can be Special Summoned even if they are banished. Either way, field presence must be sacrificed for their Summon. For this, cards such as Aurora and Nefaria have been redesigned to swarm the field rather than offer sideshow gimmicks.

 

I hope that the new effects are an improvement! Any critique?

What do you guys think of these Spell/Traps? I just want to put out the ideas for the effects before I actually make the cards.

When this card is send to the Graveyard: Special Summon 1 of your banished "Eclipse" monsters whose Level is less than or equal to the total number of Eclipse Counters on this card when it was sent to the Graveyard. That monster cannot be banished by its own effect until the end of this turn. During either player's turn, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can banish this card in your Graveyard to target 1 "Eclipse" monster you control that was Special Summoned by this card's effect; banish that target.[/spoiler]

Quick-Play Spell

During this turn, each time an "Eclipse" monster(s) is banished: Negate the effects of that "Eclipse" monster(s) that activate in the Banished Zone, and immediately draw 1 card for each "Eclipse" monster banished. During your turn, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; draw 1 card for each of your banished "Unlit Heavens" Spell/Trap Cards.[/spoiler]

Normal Spell

Target 1 of your banished "Eclipse" monsters; the Level of all "Eclipse" monsters you currently control becomes the Level of that monster until the End Phase. During either player's turn, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can banish this card in your Graveyard to target 1 "Eclipse" Xyz Monster you control; banish that target, and if you do, Special Summon all Xyz Materials  that were attached to that monster when it was banished. You cannot Xyz Summon the turn you activate this effect.[/spoiler]

Counter Trap

When you opponent activates a card effect that would remove an "Eclipse" monster(s) you control from the field: The effect of that card becomes: "Your opponent banishes 1 card from their Deck." During your opponent's turn, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; if an "Eclipse" monster is removed from the field this turn: Add 1 of your banished "Eclipse" monsters to your hand.[/spoiler]
