When does spam, become spam?

I think I'm along the lines of so long as it slightly contributes to discussion I don't care much for it, I don't care if a post doesn't have too much to do with the OP so long as it isn't one worded or literally has nothing to do with the post at all. I'm fine with discussion between two posters so long as it isn't a constant 10 page thing.

 

What are your opinions and thoughts?

When it's not in the games section, I don't like to see 1-2 worded posts, regardless of how on-topic it is. I don't really care when it is games because it's supposed to be spammy but then again, that obviously makes it the most pointless one. I can't really think of anything else to add atm, but for the most part I am in agreement with you.

I feel games are overall out of the discussion anyway considering the fact that the majority of the games require 1 worded posts as is.

I don't really see how 1-2 words could ever contribute to a conversation anyway. Unless those 2 words formed a question which moved the topic on (which I don't feel 2 words would ever be enough to do so).

 

To me, spam is words that do not contribute as a valid answer (an answer that can be discussed) or words that do not move on a topic.

Games is known for it's spam and as long as +1 never applies, I have no problem it being full of spam. It's a place for members to just be silly really.

Again, I feel games is more like the shit dumping ground for YCM to vent out it's stupidity (although some stupidity gets out every now and again)

 

Even though this is entirely unfair, I feel silly/stupid cards to be classified as spam. I feel the same can be said for just regular posts.

Funny that people should mention a 2 word answer. There is a Zen story about this.

 

 

 

There once was a monastery that was very strict. Following a vow of silence, no one was allowed to speak at all. But there was one exception to this rule. Every ten years, the monks were permitted to speak just two words. After spending his first ten years at the monastery, one monk went to the head monk. "It has been ten years," said the head monk. "What are the two words you would like to speak?"

"Bed... hard..." said the monk.

"I see," replied the head monk.

Ten years later, the monk returned to the head monk's office. "It has been ten more years," said the head monk. "What are the two words you would like to speak?"

OT: It becomes spam when it is completely off-topic, annoying, the same thing several people have said before you, or something completely unhelpful/annoying.

Even if it is unhelpful, I feel it is fine as long as it's funny.
