Darj
They look great: They are powerful starters for an archetype, assuming you plan in making more Sharkians; but if that's not the case, I still think these 3 should do just fine with Gear Gigant, Machina and Tin Goldfish support. Striker reminded me of Super-Defense Robos because of its "Special Summon from hand" mechanic. You could raise Vanguard's DEF to 1900~2000 so it will survive attacks from most Level 4 beasticks and give you field advantage. Now that I mentioned the Goldfish, maybe you could change their second effects so they trigger when Special Summoned by a WATER Machine-Type monster? That way they also will be tiggered by Goldfish. Hmm... re-reading the effects I noticed Vanguard and Guerrilla actually Summon from the Deck, when at first I thought they summoned from the hand as Striker does. Maybe you should stick to "Special Summon from hand" effects only? I not sure if summoning from the deck would turn them more powerful than intended, considering that archetypes that Special Summon from the deck a lot sometimes become problematic (see Wind-Ups and to a lesser extent, Madolches). Also, don't forget that monsters that Summon from the deck usually just do that (a +1 in the shape of a monster), while Sharkians would give you an additional +1 through their effects. Assuming your opponent doesn't counter with anything (Veiler, S/Ts, etc.), in one turn ideally you could: Normal Summon Striker -> Summon Guerrilla -> Draw a card (+1) -> Destroy a monster with Guerrilla -> Summon Vanguard (+1) -> Destroy S/T (+1) --> Summon Warlord (+1) You just +4 yourself (ignoring the monster destroyed by Guerrilla), and ended with a huge beatstick with built-in protection for the following turns. I don't know if current top tier decks can generate such amount of advantage, but I don't think the goal should be to make archetypes equally powerful, but rather more balanced. If you take the second suggestion, after downgrading their summoning abilities, they shouldn't have problems with reaching the field when combined with Tin Goldfish. Then, since they wouldn't be able to put 3 monsters on the field with such ease, I think it would be safe to reduce the requirements of Warlord to 2 Sharkian monsters, altough the ATK (with 2 materials) would still be high for a 2-material Rank 4 Xyz, but you could lower it a bit. Finally, minor OCG fixes: Guerrilla: as a result of battle --> by battle Whirl: You cannot Special Summon non-Sharkian monsters during the turn you activated this effect. --> You cannot Special Summon other monsters the turn you activate this effect, except for "Sharkian" monsters. Toffee.
I find it rather silly that you used Madols and Wind-Ups as an example. But it's funny. Both Vanguard and Guerrilla are more oriented around player interaction. I mean, they don't instantly spam the field like your examples, but rather....Striker is a Marauding Captain, yes, but hes better in the Deck as he gives the best reward, so he himself is a bit of a double edged sword; Faster Sharkian plays, but lacks the best effect(since, you know, they can't Summon copies of themselves)Assuming Vanguard doesn't get blown up by careless removal ahead of time, given the fact that he has to wait all the way until the Opponent's Battle Phase to get the fastest result, and since his DEF is average, it's more then likely he will just replace himself with another Sharkian, and then trigger that guy's effect at the same time.Guerrilla is a reverse Vanguard, but at the same time doesn't form instant Xyzs off his effect, because he himself is only restricted to the Xyz of the set.So what I'm getting at, is the monsters themselves require you to jump through hoops to get effects going, with the larger hoops giving better payments. The Xyz is mostly to disregard careless mass-removal.though, if you really wanted, I guess I could add the same Sharkian-Xyz-specific clause to the others, if only as a means to slow them down and cut-off their ability to make anything else. Darj
I mentioned Wind-Ups and Madolches as the worst offenders. I agree that the need of player interaction with Vanguard and Guerilla makes them slower, but I hold that summoning from the deck is always a slippery slope that should be better avoided, especially when each Summon will give you an additional +1. I understand the reasoning on Vanguard, but let's consider the other side of the coin: If it survives an entire opponent's turn face-down, you get to flip it face-up during your turn for a +2 out of thin air. While it is slightly situational, and top tiers can generate an equal or higher amount of advantage, I don't think it's something that should be taken lightly. I must admit that I noticed the restriction on Guerrilla once you pointed it out. That should keept it a bay, but I don't think you should add that restriction to the rest as that would kill their Xyz flexibility and virtually force them to play as a control deck with no Extra Deck. Anyway, I get your points and I know Sharkians are not be as aggressive as Wind Ups. You can leave them as they are now, but you will have to be careful with the further support (if any) you give them.
