Thousand-Eyes Restrict, again

Recommended Posts

We all remember this card, don't we?

He's been the subject of a few discussions in the past as to whether or not he should come back, though I find a lot of people at my locals really hate this card to disturbing levels. Like the guy who said this:

TER supports soft locks and gimmick decks that plague the game making it in general a less productive or skilled game, TER has no profit for KDE thus no need to push it, TER makes literally 1 spell an instant monster kill for game (he's a special summon)

So what do people think? Is this thing still so broken it has to rot on the Forbidden List, or could it come back to Limited?

I don't see it being useful @1 in any way that would affect the game.  It would be annoying, but decks devoted to bringing it out would probably suck until they got it out, and probably still suck after it is out on the field.

EDIT: and Instant Fusion is more of a problem than this IMO.

Seems that either

1) Italian text on the card was badly translated

2) I didn't saw that part

however, good to know this

That is quite odd. But yeah, now you know.

But since Instant Fusion counts as a Fusion Summon, you can use the massive plethora of low ATK/Level revival to spam Restrict and its effect.

You can if you want, but that does require a lot of deck dedication. The guy at my locals I mentioned said people would splash and abuse it in everything.

This, very much. I don't think Instant Fusion is ban-worthy, but down to 1 or 2 would be fine, and would help ensure this card stayed on a leash.

If people are still advocating for player interaction, a card like Restrict, which by its nature, reduces interaction by sealing monsters from attacking or changing Battle Position, cannot possibly help. Plus it absorbs monsters and steals their stats. So it forces the game to a crawl until it's removed from the Field.

Unlike Relinquished, which at least requires Ritual support and dedication, Restrict is live from Instant Fusion, and is easier to dedicate card slots to as a result. I doubt Restrict would be put into EVERYTHING, but Instant Fusion would become "Pay 1000 to remove any opponent's monster", and then even generic revival like Call of the Haunted could make it an instant stall option.

It's better just to leave it banned. If Instant Fusion disappeared instead, then Restrict will probably never be used because Relinquished is easier to use.

Instant Fusion is the real problem in that scenario.  This card as designed is hard to summon and requires dedication, which honestly isn't worth it in the end.  Without Instant Fusion, this card is fine.

The thing is, if Instant Fusion is banned this will never see play, which defeats the point of unbanning it.

Well, I guess with all the fusion substitute monsters, you could summon this thing by giving up one of them and a Thousand Eyes Idol, and keep the Relinquished for later. Or use fusion recovery and get the polymerization and one of the substitutes or Relinquished, I'm also thinking that Restrict in defense mode plus Heart of Clear Water would make a nasty combo, too. Or with Hex sealed monsters, just ritual summon relinquished and use your normal summon on The Dark- Hex Sealed Fusion, and you don't even need polymerization. The fact that it only needs two materials and one can be substituted is probably most of the reason that it's considered so broken.

That would never see play though.  Too much investment for so little return.

It doesn't defeat the point of unbanning it, it proves the point.

That's using point in two different ways, the former being "purpose/motive" while the latter is "argument". The point of unbanning TER would be to enable an extra dimension of plays. The Ban List isn't a hard drive with a finite amount of space.

The banlist should be kept as limited as possible.  Why ban a card that has no reason to be banned?  Should I ban "7" because no one plays it?  No?  So why should this be banned?

This is again where I quote my locals a little:

Crime has come a long way, people are killing each other all over the place. Stealing doesn't look so bad anymore compared to murder, seems like a waste to enforce that.

its a stupid card that has no place in the game and that it being outdated or not as good as more up to date cards is not grounds for it to be unbanned.

Ok, thought I'd make this point. Clog up opponents field with something like Flying C or Ojama Token thingys. In addition to their monsters. Play that trap card that changes all monsters to face up defense. No Entry? And then summon this guy. Lockdown. Heart of Clear Water.
Final Countdown. GG Bro.

Final Countdown is the problem there.

Consider this when using the logic that it being outdated/etc is grounds for removing it from the banned category: Is it still abusable? If yes, keep it banned. If not, continue advocating its return.

Card that can abuse TER: Instant Fusion.

Those two cards should not be allowed to co-exist. Since TER is currently banned, there's no need to reverse the list positioning of Restrict and Instant Fusion, unless Instant Fusion becomes unquestionably broken in the meta.

I think there is reason to ban Instant Fusion over this.  I'm trying to come up with another example of this.

In the old Disaster Dragon decks and such, people could reveal Five God Dragon to dump 5 cards for Future Fusion.  No one would argue that FGD is OP.  On it's own there is no reason to hit it at all.  The same logic applies here, except that TER is already on the banlist which IMO shouldn't change anything,
