Non-Effect Extra Deck Monster Support: Gem-Knight Jadeite

Gem-Knight Jadeite

2 Level 4 monsters

(Once per turn: You can detach 2 Xyz Materials from this card; Special Summon 1 non-Effect Monster from your Extra Deck. It cannot attack this turn.)

I got this idea when I figured out that 'XX-Saber Gottoms' had literally outclassed 'Naturia Leodrake' in every way.  It was slightly easier to summon because you didn't need a non-Tuner, it had 100 more ATK, and it had an effect.   Non-Effect Extra Deck monsters tend to get overlooked aside from 'Gem-Knight Pearl'...

  1. Double Summon -> 2x Alexandrite Dragon
  2. Overlay for Jadeite
  3. Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon
  4. Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon
  5. Foolish Burial: Black Luster Soldier -> Grave
  6. Dragon's Mirror, Dragon Master Knight.

Recommended course of action: Make Jadeite less generic.

6-card combo, mop lel. Well, 4 if you use Rabbit instead of Double Summon. Not to mention BLS the Ritual is bad, as well is BESD and Dragon Master Knight (but this won't matter since it's in the Extra). And you'd have to not use your Foolish on better cards.

OT: While I did just point out how difficult the above poster's combo was to pull off, a generic 2-mat Rank 4 that can pump out an enormous beatstick like Leodrake or BEUD like that is still a little threatening, even if it can't attack that turn. It's kinda like Endless Decay, but Decay gets neutralized by effect negation as well as effect destruction, and doesn't work that well if your opponent is already close to beaten.

Okay, as unlikely or unreliable as it is, imagine going against that combo on Turn 2. (Going Second's Turn 1)

Rather than the 4500 with Summon sickness you get stopping at BEUD, the whole combo totals at 8500 Damage on-board ready to fire. 9900 if Jadeite gets in on it.

Ok, so it's a 4 (or 6)-card OTK combo. There are lots of those that exist, and many of them run better cards than the Ritual BLS or BESD. Your starting hand having 2 Limited Cards (or alternatively three Unlimited Cards as well as one Limited Card), as well as a hardly-usable card and then... well... Dragon Mirror... is not very likely. Most of these cards aren't searchable, you would have to sit on your rump for turns with drawing cards in order to get what you still don't have, and trying Pot of Duality delays the OTK for a turn.

4-card OTKs are nothing new. Frowned upon, yes, but it's still really hard to pull off.

I get what you're saying, but how would I make it less generic without making it useless?

Couple of ideas: Since it's a Non-Effect Support you could make it 2 Normal Level 4 Monsters; or it could require a cost of 2 Xyz Materials, but can recover 1 per turn (kinda like Shutendoji's effects). Making it two Gem-Knights would make sense, but kinda clash with their Fusions and negate this cards own viability so avoid that.

I changed it to 2 Xyz Materials.  Since the possibility of an instant 4500 beatstick exists, there is no Xyz Material recovery effect.

Fair enough, another idea I had (if you still want to hear) is make it 3 Level 4's, but make it so the total detached levels are equal to or higher than the monster you're summoning.

Example 1: Detach 3 to Summon BEUD ( 3x4=12 ) or Black Skull Dragon ( 3x4=12>9 )

Example 2: Detach 1 to summon Thousand Eyes Restrict (4>1), and next turn detach 2 to summon Zirconia ( 4x2=8 ).

This can make it flexible without making it "Summon 2 Normal Monsters. Xyz Jade, Special Summon Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon." Sound good?

This is actually much better since the user can't just derp out 2 or 3 4500 ATK sticks and laugh as the enemy pisses himself. That was the problem with Super-Life-Gain decks back when Cyber-Stein was at 3 in both formats. The Gem-Knight vanillas mention drawing on the power inside their Gems, so it makes sense for a bigger Summon to use up more of Jadeite's mystical jade powers in-universe on top of it.

The recovery of material could work in the sense of Jade resting the gem and recharging, but there'd have to be restriction on it for obvious reasons, like, Jade can't do it while a Monster (s)he Summoned is on the field.
