The Viability of Rank-Ups

So, what would need to be done to make Rank-Ups and their associated Chaos Numbers into a competitive option, instead of just a semi-casual gimmick?

They need to be not a dead draw by themselves or searchable by a monster that can make a majority of the monsters you will want to rank up. Let's face it: Rank-Up Magics are the WORST dead draws in existance tbh. Other than the World.

Still, though, they need a means of being able to appear in the hand instead of just casually drawing them.

No-one was talking about "too powerful," we were answering the question of what would push them into a legitimate thing.

There's all of 2 remotely good ones and one decent one.

Astral Force is good because it's either a 3K board reduction or a 2.7K veiler from any LIGHT Warrior. This is only relevant in Utopia. It at least has neat little combos (Zenmaioh -> Sack), but they're not enough to make it not a dead draw that's inconsistent. And it recurs, technically.

Argent is good because it recurs itself and isn't an utter waste of space since you can run 1 and get it back consistently, as well as dump it with Lavalval and get it back... But it doesn't matter because the best R8 decks (Galaxy, Sylvan, somewhat D-Rulers at times) don't need the dead draw.

LBF's a decent RUM because it's like a mini-argent... but it does absolutely nothing else. It's just a RUM. And that's going to be dead a lot of the time because you're not always going to want C101/104 or your tech CNo if you run another. Usually a 4K beater.

TSO's bad because it's a horrible dead draw and says "you run draw power? lol fuck you". There is Plaguespreader/Sylvans, but... why are you undoing a dead draw you shouldn't have and shutting down your other plays for the turn 9/10.

Barian's Force is just plain awful.

Numeron Force is winmoar because it's as restricted as Barian's but it has a decent effect... That your CNo probably doesn't care about, anyways, as it'll be removing cards from the field.

They need to have a secodnary effect that can be used outside of being a RUM.

Like, idk, make it a Spellbook of Power for RUMs other than itself, that gives +500-600 to an Xyz.

If their searcher was a Spell I believe RUMs would go off the charts.

 

But yes, we need a searcher.

 

Most of the RUMs are fine, but an added effect would be nice.

Numeron Force is winmoar because it's as restricted as Barian's but it has a decent effect... That your CNo probably doesn't care about, anyways, as it'll be removing cards from the field.
 

I agree somewhat with Barian's Force....but could you clarify about Numeron? Negating effects of everything is pretty dang potent and something that CNo aren't always capable of. But I suppose in some cases it is just winmoar.
