Libracor
In every new spin-off of the Yu-gi-oh! franchise, emphasis is placed on different styles of summoning. For GX it was fusion, for 5D's it was synchro, for ZEXAL it was Xyz, and for Arc V it will be pendulum. But, stay with me on this, 'cuz I'm about to blow your minds! Legacy Summon! Basic Guidelines:1. Legacy Monsters will have levels and a red frame. (Think Slifer the sky Dragon's frame)2. The Legacy material (I'll explain later on) must have been on the field at the beginning of your turn.3. When a Legacy monster is destroyed, it's summoner can special summon one of its material monsters. When Summoning:1. Legacy monsters have a "constant" material that is listed on the card.2. They also have a "Variable" material. I.E. "1 monster" or "1 DARK monster."3. Both materials are removed from play. 4. Most Legacy monsters will have an effect that depends on their variables, and often will be powered up versions of their constants.5. Legacy monsters will always be one level higher than their constants. Edit: I figured out how to post pics!!! (FINALLY!) Constant material Lore: When this monster is normal summoned: special summon one level 4 or lower monster from the graveyard in defense position. Legacy Monster Lore: "Tribal Fenrjr" The attribute of this monster's variable material determines its effect: DARK: When this card attacks: discard one card, and if you do: destroy one face-up card on the field. LIGHT: When this card attacks: discard one card, and if you do: destroy one set card on the field. WIND: This monster loses 1000 ATK. This monster can attack the opponent directly. EARTH: This monster gains 500 ATK. At the beginning of your battle phase, this monster can and must attack all monsters your opponent controls (you decide the order). WATER: This monster loses 500 ATK. This monster is unaffected by card effects. FIRE: If this monster destroys a monster by battle: inflict damage to your opponent equal to the original ATK of the destroyed monster. Also, these may be a bit OP. If you have suggestions on how to fix them, let me know. I really want to hear it. Feel free to say want you think about these cards. Just so you know: these guidelines are not final and I would be open to you trying your hand at making these. Update: The Flame Swordsman has taken a few lessons andhe's here to prove it! "Flame swordsman" While this card remains face-up on the field: neither player may summon a monster(s) of the same attribute as this monster's legacy variable. Just an example of older cards gaining more use in the current meta.
SANDAA BORUTO
So it should be basically something like this: Dark Magician of Generations Attrib: DARK Level: 8 Type: Spellcaster/Legacy/Effect ATK: 2800 DEF: 2600 "Dark Magician" + 1 Level 6 or higher Spellcaster-Type Effect Monster This card gains the effect(s) of the monster used for this card's Legacy Summon whose original (printed) name is not "Dark Magician". Once per turn: You can pay 1000 Life Points: Activate 1 of the following effects: |Destroy all Spell/Trap cards your opponent controls. This card cannot attack during the turn you activate this effect. |Target 1 "Dark Magician" monster or "Magician of Black Chaos" in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target. |Spellcaster-Type Normal Monsters you currently control can attack your opponent directly and are unaffected by other card effects. These changes last until the End Phase.
Wildflame
If a bit unoriginal, it doesn't sound bad at all.
Slinky
This is actually infinitely better than Pendulum Derping.
Sleepy
I think it'd be good to have it be the same Level so that Level 1 Legacy is possible and Level 12 doesn't miss out on the party. You basically evolve a monster.

Libracor
Thank you so much to everyone who has commented on this topic. This really does mean a heck of a lot to me. I've already designed an entire archetype based on legacy summoning, but it's a bit broken considering I got the idea for Legacy AFTER I made the archetype. If anybody would like to see it, I can type it up, but I still have no clue how to post pictures! (sob)
Zauls
I'm pretty sure I've seen something similar before, but people make up their own mechanics all the time so I might be mistaken. Anyway, it does seem like a decent mechanic and its good that they are all restricted in their materials so they are not as easy as Xyzs. To me though they do just seem like Synchros but buffed in some ways and nerfed in others. Still, I would've preferred this to Pendulums... Just to clarify, you should state where the Legacy Monsters are placed at the start of the game, though I assume they go in the Extra Deck. This also seems like the kind of thing you could post in Experimental Cards over in the CC section. I'm sure everyone would be interested in seeing some of the cards. Libracor
To clear a few things up: 1. About levels. Legacy monsters gaining a level is more symbolic than anything else, so having Legacy cards keep their originals' levels defeats the purpose. Also, if you want a level 11 or similar monster to have a legacy form, that's difficult. Almost all of those monsters can only be special summoned, and only in a specific way, meaning they can't be special summoned one the legacy monster is destroyed. Also, these monsters are already INCREDIBLY BEEFY as a general rule, and a Legacy form would be overkill. 2. Legacy monsters exist in the extra deck, and when they are destroyed (but not removed from the field by any other means) you can special summon either their constant or variable but not both. Libracor
And to Bujintei, legacy monster variables should be kept very broad, if possible. Having guidelines like your Dark Magician legacy practically enforces the use of Dark Magician Girl. Also, its effect should not be the ability to take its variable's ability if it already has good ATK. However, gaining stats for a variable's level or stats is recommended.
