Number 62: Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon

Recommended Posts

Number62GalaxyEyesPrimePhotonDragon-PRIO

Level 8 monsters
If this card attacks or is attacked, during damage calculation (in either player's turn): You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card once per battle; this card gains ATK equal to the combined Ranks of all Xyz Monsters currently on the field x 200, during that damage calculation only. If this card in its owner's control is destroyed by your opponent's card effect while it has "Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon" as an Xyz Material: You can Special Summon this card during your 2nd Standby Phase after activation and double its ATK. Any battle damage this card inflicts to your opponent is halved unless it has "Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon" as an Xyz Material.

Name left as-is. Still a really neat card.

Discuss.

I had no doubts it'd keep the name. It has to called "Number 62", and it's a Galaxy-Eyes monster. And a Photon monster. The only word that isn't an absolute is "Prime", and there's nothing wrong with that.

It's a gorgeous card. The effect is very nice, and the damage-halving is only a problem outside of Galaxy Decks, as it becomes a glorified beatstick. With Galaxy-Eyes, however, it has that revival effect and doesn't halve damage.

I keep thinking this is a really overpowered card, but it really just isn't even all that good, right?

Still, it does look pretty damn awesome.

It is because it lets Galaxies OTK stupid easily .

That said, Galaxies aren't good enough still, and even then the OTKing is on Soldier.

I probably won't replace Tachyon with this because negating other effects and bonus attacks > big beater IMO.

... But that's wrong?

In Galaxies this is your biggest wincon. Dropping this + R5 = OTK, since R5 excels in removal.

You don't make it just to make it, but it's the wincon.

And it's not like 107 and 62 compete for the same spot so idk why that's what you'd neg for this.

Granted, TCG Galaxies are s*** anyways so who cares

I'm not talking about Galaxy decks, I'm talking about the poor man who can't afford Felgrand.

Why are you thinking of using this in non-Galaxy Rank 8 Decks? It's a glorified beatstick that only does half damage if you don't have Galaxy-Eyes attached. It also doesn't have its revival effect if you don't have Galaxy-Eyes attached. You use this in Galaxy Decks. Not much use anywhere else.

The original post said I wasn't gonna use this over Tachyon, comparing the fact that both are 2 materials. Everyone else assumed I was talking about a Galaxy deck and then we got here.

That's because there's no reason to even consider this if you're not running Galaxies, it's common sense.

Right, we'd assume that because it's logical to assume you're using a Galaxy Deck if you're considering this. Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon is required for this card to be good. Otherwise, it's really not worth the investment, especially compared to the other generic Rank 8s.

Idk, it's an ok card even with half damage. Sometimes you just want to run over stuff. But 8 is actually a pretty decent rank now: Felgrand, Alsei, Tachyon, Giant Killer and Heliopolis all come before this, so it's understandable that it doesn't see play outside of its deck.

I banned it in Character format because in Galaxies it was just waaaaaaay too much damage to drop on board for too little dedication, and even outside of the deck 4K is really hard to get over, and it's bad manners to ban a card for just the character who can use it anyways.

Outside of a limited format, though, 90% of the time you would prefer something else over this outside of Galaxies.
