So, what decks are topping things right now? We have HATs, Rulers, Bujins, Geargia, Madolche and Infernity as most of the meta right now (may have missed a couple but that's the important stuff). With HATs seeing a huge rise in play and they had great success at YCS Philly. That is the reason I have come up with the hypothesis that Fire Kings' time may be now.

Of the list, they have a great matchup against HATs (not caring about Artifacts or Hands), a pretty good Geargia matchup (Garunix blowing up Armors all day long), probably a good Ruler matchup (don't like Felgrand but don't care about Draco or Big Eye), good Infernity matchup now Barrier is @1 and they rely on Break a lot, good Bujin matchup given the ease at which they can bait out their effects and how they don't really care about Turtle. Madolche seems to be the only real issue here, and running Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys helps a lot there, while also improving the Infernity matchup.

Sure, the deck has its inherent problems like speed and whatnot, but Garunix and Nephthys do wreck a lot of the meta right now. The rise of HATs is the really important thing though. You could say HATs get around it with a 2200 Dweller, but are they really gonna get the chance to make a Dweller any time?

During the next Standby Phase after this card was destroyed by a card effect and sent to the GraveyardSpecial Summon this card from the Graveyard. When you do: Destroy all other monsters on the field. When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Fire King" monster from your Deck, except "Fire King High Avatar Garunix".

I play these IRL, not that it matters
I think one of the reasons why Kings are rather overlooked, is because Rekindling is at 1. Yet, it's a stupid reason, because the deck was never dependent on Rekindling in the first place.
That, and blowing up Garunix in and of itself is rather gimmicky, since you either hope your opponent does it OR you jump through a hoop to do it yourself.
Oh, and the TCG doesn't have Supply Unit yet, so that seems like another factor.
