Non-Effect Monster Draw Engine: Forerunner Cauldron

If you possess no Effect monsters on your side of the field or in your Graveyard: Discard 1 "Harbinger" monster; draw 2 cards.

Some of you that have been following my posts may remember the "Cursed Pot of Greed" that I made a while back.  This is a refined and more balanced version of that card and will be part of a new set called "Harbingers of the Colossus" that will contain almost no Effect monsters.

Most of the non-Monster cards in the set will be "Forerunner" versions of banned cards such as Raigeki and Monster Reborn and will require the banishing of non-Effect monsters with different names from your Graveyard as a cost.

The set may serve mostly as a call back to the old nostalgic days of cards that many may have used over a decade ago.

Oh shoot. Advanced clause. Anyways, my first thought was,"Nobody uses normal monsters anymore... This is not going to be useful." But seeing that youre making a normal monster deck, this card will fit so good luck on that normal monster deck. Post it in Multiple Cards section, in case you might forget. Basically I see your deck is banned cards but with a banishing normal monsters cost. For example, this card that you posted is pot of greed with a banishing normal monsters cost. Good Luck!
Edit: Call this "Forerunner Pot because it looks like a pot.

Non-Effect monsters don't necessarily equate Normal Monsters. There are also Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz Monsters that aren't Effect monsters. Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth and Gem-Knight Pearl are such examples.

Being a banned card with an additional cost tacked on doesn't really draw ire. Look at Chaos Greed, now back to Pot of Greed, now back to Chaos Greed, now back to Pot of Greed. Nobody riffs on Chaos Greed aside from how difficult it is to play, despite it being Pot of Greed with an activation restriction. Forerunner Cauldron is akin to that. The restrictions really clamp down how splashable this card is, and so it will only be effective in a Deck with a similar focus.

I considered "Forerunner Pot" at first because it is the Forerunner counterpart to "Pot of Greed".  It just sounded too plain and unoriginal considering how it's already "Pot of Greed" with a additional requirement.  That's why I went with "Forerunner Cauldron".  It just sounded cooler, you know.  It's kind of like I would call the Forerunner counterpart of "Raigeki" something like "Forerunner Apocalypse" instead of "Forerunner Raigeki".  I'll probably use a lot of words like 'subjugation' or 'rapture' or 'evanescence'.  Cool sounding words like that...  :D

  • 1 month later...

What're you talking about? This is gmaster's thread.

The rules are a little more lenient with self-necrobumps. Hopefully.

Necrobump?  I was just letting anyone that followed this thread know that my Harbingers of the Colossus pack is finished.  This card just happened to be part of it, so I posted it on this thread.

The general idea of a necrobump is to post in a thread that hasn't had any activity for a long time, usually a month, for whatever reason. When other people do it, the thread is usually locked without further question. When the thread creator does it, things are slightly fuzzy...

Oh...  Well, okay then.  This card is part of the new pack, so I shouldn't be using this thread any more anyway.
