I would like to know what happen to a site where people could make a card to have fun, post it to see what people think and add from there.

I have been gone for what 4-5 years (this is a new account and i couldnt remember the password for my old one, plus its been deleted) and now it sounds like all cards have to be competitve worthy? Im not saying this is stupid and what you guys are say/doing is wrong and your ruining the site but let the not so smart comment on the not so smart (meaning the ones who dont know to much about competitive)

And .Aix telling people to go play a duel or some sort of competitive just to know how to make good cards just proves what I just said, im pretty sure this site wasn't just made with the mindset that everyone that would come here was a competitive player, but to let people make those silly over powered cards with they faces on them(not to post of course). Again not saying that your wrong about commenting or any of that.

Maybe I would agree more if i know what a comment was like since no one usually comments on stuff I make and take one look and leave. Which also makes me feel like sometimes I cant even comment on someones card because I have no say BECAUSE I havent even gotten an criticism on my cards so how do i know what to say??

There's the Any Other Cards section for that. The Realistic Cards section is for cards that are actually meant to be played in the real game.

Well I know RC is for real cards that would be played but you shouldn't be to harsh on people for not fully understanding, Im no competitive player and I cant say that YGOPro has opened my mind to how cards work, the tv shows lie about effects, and even whatching a competitive game....they didnt even talk? they announced the phases didnt say effects, just attack and activate thats all i saw.

Just if you see someone that doesnt know what there doing dont be so quick to say, YOUR DOING IT WRONG just tell them what they said wrong and dont be so uptight if you are you just gunna put the new creators and people with soft feelings in a bad place. And im not talking about the cards im talking about comments

*Reads thread*

Am I the only one who misses the Koko-Black regime?

I mean, they enforced standards to keep RC from looking like the DNF's Create-A-Card section that it is now.

This is what happens when you stop being a hardass in what is both the most important section on this forum, and the one that gets most of the stupid.

The bulk of the people who join this forum don't care about design, the meta, or how their abominations interact with existing cards.

They watch the show, then they come here to make Elemental Dragons and Elemental Wolves and Red-Eyes Ultimate Dragons and Exodia support.

You have to rip them to shreds.

You have to teach member that OCG fixes, comments about the card picture, and abstract posts are not in line with this forum's standards.

You have to enforce high standards in the RC section because this isn't the "post any busted or badly designed card you want."

On that note, does this section even have a mod?

Previous RC mods here would make their presence known by posting in threads to criticize offending members.

Public shaming? No, it's teaching other new members that this section has high standards, and provides an example for how not to post.

You can just warn these members, but so what? That warn is just a number, and the other members can't learn how to improve from a numerical slap on the wrist they can't see.

This topic aside, it looks like the most attention this section gets is when a random mod pops in to lock a necro'd topic.

Yeah, the anonymous members in the opening post were far below standard, but it's pretty easy for these members to not see why it's a bad thing when the mod doesn't directly give them, or the mountain of other recent offenders, a dressing down in the original threads and tell them to get up to section standards.

I should also note that what is helpful and what is not helpful shouldn't necessarily be taken on an individual basis unless the topic poster specifically asks for something.

In general, aesthetics of the cards TEXT is little to no help to anyone that's posting a card. The only reason finding a way to shorten the card text is helpful is if it more clearly gets across the effects the text is explaining. That's the point of card text. If it's a normal monster, then the lore's aesthetics will matter more, but on the other hand, we really shouldn't even be seeing normal monsters in RC, because they lack a point outside of use in an archetype which one would have ALSO made to use it.

Outside of that, card text's purpose is to explain an effect as clearly as it can. Whether it looks aesthetically pleasing as a block or as a single line is basically irrelevant. Pictures may be more relevant because of flavor, etc., but the LOOK of the text itself is really not something anyone should be commenting to any topic poster about improving, because virtually no (1, if any) topic poster is ever going to find that sort of comment constructive.

And even then, there's like zero conversation you can really bring up about it. "I think it's too blocky and ugly." "I don't think that's a problem." End discussion. What a great comment that helps improve the card! So yeah, I don't even think we should consider a comment talking about the aesthetics of a wall of text as helpful, since no one will find it helpful. And unfortunately, that was like the only part of the dude's comment that even had some amount of an explanation :\

The rest, he's just arguing that he should be allowed to be lazy so that he doesn't have to explain his reasoning. "It should be obvious." Is most certainly no excuse.

As for those commenting that cards posted in RC shouldn't be analyzed as if they'll be played in the meta: your card is posted in RC, that's realistic cards, that means they will be viewed as if they will be played in the meta, and as such, you should understand that this is how they will be viewed if you post there. You don't get to produce a card that functions in a vacuum, that's not how this works. If you don't feel like talking about the card as it relates to the meta, we have other forums for you to post it in.

Now for the rest of the thread:
Hina: you went from partially pretentious to hilarious in 5 seconds, good job
v: shut the f*** up, no one cares
J-Max: before I finally leave for good, I shall edit my oldest posts and insert porn everywhere. you'll all come across them on a cold winter's night. possibly enjoy the experience.
Armz: I mean that dude does disgust me... more than most people here
Crow: you have to find a balance between trying to explain something, and REALLY getting the point across, which sometimes does require getting a little harsh, especially with repeat offenders.
Crouton: But the Black-Koko regime controls the rest of the forum, already.

Now that's it, look, make rules. do whatever the f*** you wish, best I'll go is ignore them and happily look forward to the moment someone freaking dares to infract me for a comment that by their complex explanation they say is "not as useful feedback", screw it. I'm in a forum, and whoever is going to be silly and start breaking down anyone's comment to pieces to measure the "level" of usefulness is gonna see the middle finger.

The way you treat "usefulness" and tyrant-ly decide what's okay to point out and what's not is ridiculous and screwed up. These threads are ranting.

Tyrant would imply one person is forcing a rule upon multiple people, whereas this is the majority of the forum explaining to you what a useful comment is as agreed upon by the greater community.

There's nothing tyrannical about it. You're trying to argue that the rules shouldn't apply to you because you don't want to follow them. Mostly because you got called out and you're complaining because you don't know when you bow out and take the criticism to try to improve your comments.

But please, if you can't understand that, offer the middle finger and ignore the rules. I'd like to see what happens. ^^
