[J-Max Quickie] Moonlight Guardian of the Butterflies

Been a while since I did a Single. This is a potential opener for a Mini-Set but I wanted to show this off for now. I was thinking 2 Insects at first to get her out but I wanted players to take advantage of her Special Summon Ability. Also considering using the return to Extra Deck for most of the Butterfly Monsters. CnC is welcomed. I will Like for good reviews.

 

3 Level 4 Insect-Type monsters.

When this card is Xyz Summoned, you can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card. Special Summon the monster that was detached from this card to your field in face-up Attack Position. This card is also treated as Spellcaster-Type. Once per turn you can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to Special Summon 1 Level 4 or below Insect-Type monster from your Deck. The Special Summoned monster cannot attack on the turn it was Special Summoned. When this card is removed from your field, if this card had Xyz Materials, the card is returned to your Extra Deck instead.

Personally, I don't like what this card does. It takes 3 materials but summons 2, so in the end, it basically turns 1 of those 3 materials into a 2400-ATK beatstick. It does have interesting interactions with Insects such as Myrmeleo (activate its MST effect) and you could Summon an Insect Tuner from the deck for a Synchro; in other words, the card is subpar with its "transform 1 monster into a 2400-ATK beater" gimmick but at the same time is vulnerable to abuse. Actually, chances are that if you Summon this it will be to abuse it because otherwise you would be going for other 2~3-material Rank4s instead. So yeah, I wouldn't say this card is healthy for the game as it is asking to be abused.

 

To fix it, I would go for something different for the second effect, or at least nerf it into "add a Level 4 or lower Insect from your deck to the hand". That way, it would be more of 3-material Gigant X/King of Feral Imp for Insects, while still allowing combos with its first, Special Summoning effect.

 

OCG fix:

This card is also treated as Spellcaster-Type. If this card is removed from the field while it has Xyz Materials, it is returned to the Extra Deck. When this card is Xyz Summoned: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Special Summon the monster that was detached from this card to your field in face-up Attack Position. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Insect-Type monster from your Deck. It cannot attack on the turn it was Special Summoned.

 

Moved the "treated as Spellcaster" and the recycling effects up because, as far as I know, continuous effects are listed first. Still not sure if the OCG for the recycling effect is correct, though.

Thank you for your detailed review. I will definaely consider the options regarding adding to hand instead. It did seem a bit too strong on paper. Also thanks for pointing out regarding being treated as another Type. I always make mistakes in what order the Effect is in lol.
