The Guide for making a deck based around a weak, existing card, staring Poki Draco!

Making archtypes all from scratch is something that's fun to do; you have the freedom to do anything you want. But what if your mission was to use the card making ability to make an existing, weak card in real-life yugioh, actually playable? Then it becomes a bigger challenge.
I will use my own cards as an example to show how to do such a thing, and how interesting it can be.

Lets look at this card:

When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 "Poki Draco" from your Deck to your hand.

Poki Draco is basically a very weaker version of a Gadget. It is weaker, one level lower, cannot be searched, and can only be searching for another 2 copies of itself, making the 3rd one a dead card.
Is it possible to make it playable in any way? let's find out!

Rule No.1: Making broken cards like a costumed "Raigeki" is like not doing your job at all. The mission is to make solid, stable cards that support the real-card's ability.

Poki Draco Is a searcher, a gadget-like monster, as i said before. But it can only search for itself, which means we gotta have another searcher!

When this card is Normal Summoned or special Summoned: You can add 1 "Draco" monster from your Deck to your hand.

Egg Draco is the perfect searcher, it can search for itself or Poki, and can also activate it's effect when Special Summoned, which means is a viable target for Masked Dragon!
When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 Dragon-Type monster with 1500 or less ATK from your Deck.

Rule No.2: Always search for cards that already exist in real-life and use them in the deck! As many real-cards that you'll be able to mix in, the better your idea is!

So we have our searchers, but searching has to lead to something in the end. We have to use those searched cards to our advantage. So let's make a KageTokage like card!

You can discard this card to the graveyard; Add 1 Level 3 Dragon-Type FIRE monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Shooting Baby Draco". If you Normal Summoned a level 3 FIRE monster this turn, you can activate this card effect from your hand: you can Normal Summon 1 additional time this turn. Each one of this effects can only be activated once while this card is in your hand.

1. This card has "Draco" in it's name, which means he can be searched by our Egg Draco, who now becomes our ultimate engine card!
2. This card has 2 effects. 1 of them is: "If you Normal Summoned a level 3 FIRE monster this turn, you can activate this card effect from your hand: you can Normal Summon 1 additional time this turn." This is the Kagetokage-like effect it talked about. Now you can normal summon your searcher, summon this card and go for a big play!
The 2nd eff of this card is: "You can discard this card to the graveyard; Add 1 Level 3 Dragon-Type FIRE monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Shooting Baby Draco"." I made this effect because the deck is too weak and needs more support and search power.
3. This card is a tuner. Why? Not only for an optional Synchro play, but also because of Rule no.2! Remember this card?: Cards of ConsonanceDiscard 1 Dragon-Type Tuner monster with 1000 or less ATK; draw 2 cards.
It might not be needed, but we already have low-attack Dragon-type monsters, so why not?

I think that all this support made us forget that Poki Draco is the main card we want to focus on, and we haven't taken care of it's biggest problem: Can only search for itself. So i came with this idea:

2 Level 3 FIRE Monsters
Once per turn, You can Detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; shuffle 1 monster from your graveyard into the Deck, then add 1 level 3 FIRE monster from you Deck to your Hand.

Pay attention to what this card does! It lets you add 1 level 3 FIRE monster from you Deck to your Hand, AKA Dracos, but it asks you to shuffle 1 monster from your graveyard into the Deck for it to happen. Sounds like a cost? not at all, cause with this you can shuffle the Poki Draco copies into the deck and make a sort of a loop for always having a searchable Poki Draco! It's not a cost but actually the true effect of the card.

Rule No.4: Make cards that complete each other.

This cards are nice, but adding more power is always welcomed, and i have the perfect idea. We talked about Gadgets and what to do with them after being searched?

You can discard Dragon-Type FIRE monster(s) whose total Levels equal 6 or more, then Special Summon this card (from your hand or Graveyard). When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: Target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy that target. When this Face-up card is targeted by an effect, destroy it. When this card is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the Graveyard, Add 1 Level 3 Dragon-Type FIRE monster from your graveyard to your hand.

A Fortress-like card! It lets you make bigger pushes, and if it was sent together with a Draco to be SS, and then went to grave of it's own effect(when being targeted by an effect, you can add that same Draco card back to hand! So you essentially lost 1 card(Lava Draco), Made your opponent maybe struggle a little, maybe waste a card of his own like Dimensional Prison on it, and not really losing him due to him being sent to grave. Now after you can go with your Xyz plays, and maybe this time the opponent has 1 less answer for it!

to sum it up, making a weak real-life card playble is a mission, but a very fun one. There are a lot of rules and tips, most of them depend on the maker and how good it is, but the most important thing is being original and keep trying!

Note: the cards are not fully made, the attack and defense stats are somewhat random.

This seems like a very interesting idea. I may try to make one of these decks for Watapon! But only if I can be bothered. But for now the deck seems very under-powered, except for the Lava Draco, which seems slightly too over-powered, in my opinion.

Maybe try giving the "When this Face-up card is targeted by an effect, destroy it." effect to the Rooster Warrior, because the Lava Draco will almost always be in a face-up position.

Anyway, I hope this helps and I would like to see this idea being continued in the future.

Watapon XD it will be very hard, gl! o:

Rooster doesn't need the self-des' eff because only lava gets something from it, he blows himself to add a card. This deck was actually made by me months ago, and has more cards to it, mainly more "Kagetokages" monsters and a strong fire xyz, but i actually made the thread more to show an example of how to work with a weak real-life card o: Thanks!
