LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
Pitch: There is Yuri. Done. I'm sold. But honestly I keep forgetting this is on my to watch list until I see it mentioned here. So anything I hear about it would be from the point of view of someone who hasn't seen it, so I can at least give thoughts on how good the pitch is. Agro
So the argument so far is:1. There is Yuri2. There is YaoiSomehow I feel this may not sell as much as you think it will.
Agro
I'm sold. But honestly I keep forgetting this is on my to watch list until I see it mentioned here. So anything I hear about it would be from the point of view of someone who hasn't seen it, so I can at least give thoughts on how good the pitch is. - It's based on a novel– not a light novel– but a full on your-english-teacher-just-assigned-this novel. - The screenplay was written by a dude who has done the script and series composition for the following series: Bleach, Broken Blade, Fairy Tale, Full Metal Panic!, Gantz, GTO, Hunter x Hunter, Inazuma Eleven, Medabots, Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, Rurouni Kenshin - Made by A-1 Pictures, who have made: Birdy the Mighty: Decode, Black Butler, Fairy Tale, Occult Academy, Blue Exorcist, Space Brothers, Sword Art Online, Magi, Servant x Service, Silver Spoon, and unfortunately Oreimo and The Id@lmaster. - It's a coming of age epic featuring mind powers, mutant dogs that eat people, mind powers, human-rat hybrid slaves, mind powers, and last but not least, mind powers - It's basically The Giver + Brave New World, the anime; or if you prefer, Akira + 1000 years. It's also very deep, very emotional, very moving, very powerful, very thought provoking, very intellectual, very dark, very harrowing, and very heartwarming. Did I miss anything, anyone else who's seen it? EDIT: f***ing double post EDIT2: Oh yeah, and there's yuri and yaoi, but telling someone that it's going to be there is blasphemy because it's much more entertaining to see them come upon it by themselves after you've sold them the rest of the series. EDIT3: also, fun fact: first time director. He did really f***ing good.
Raine
It is the best dystopian future story ever written and exploration into the lives and maturing of 5 children in a novel prizing-winning fashion.

EDIT3: also, fun fact: first time director. He did really f***ing good. Well, based on a novel is certainly a unique thing. That's a good selling point, especially if the book did well. Course I love books. That's an interesting line-up, though personally Bleach...ugh. Though it at least shows they are well liked. A-1 Studios, that's pretty good, from what I know. Okay, I can see that then. Mind powers and mutants are always cool....well not always, but done well that's a really cool thing. Be careful with that last one, I loved The Giver, but.... Gets a lot of flak. And dark and emotional yet heartwarming sounds great. From what you've said so far, it at least seems worth a shot. Now, the question is, your club, what are they like with anime? Gotta appeal to them personally of course.
Agro
It's the Giver but not a pretty easy pincushion for criticism. Like it makes The Giver look bad. They're generally male, although I've basically convinced a few people into looking into it by sincerely saying: "It's pretty easily in my top 5 anime ever" I've basically just got to convince them to vote it into the top like 8 anime brought to the meeting so that I can get them to watch the first episode. After watching it, I then need to have them be convinced they want to watch it enough to vote it into the Top 3. This is for our Thursday meetings. The Saturday meetings are already voted on and the anime that got through were: Shiki, Watamote, and Space Dandy.Last year we watched:Saturday: Gankutsuou: Count of Monte Cristo Kaiba Mushishi Princess Jellyfish Birdy the Mighty: Decode Hyouka My Bride is a Mermaid Thursday: Baccano! Agro
I'm pretty sure I can sell it into watching the first episode. But I haven't watched that episode in a while and I want to make sure it'll draw them in.

Seeing that club's seen Kill la Kill and AoT, tell the club just a few of the series that would peak their interest. For example, you could tell them that the screenplay was done by the guy who wrote the script for Rurouni Kenshin, and *insert other series here you deem fit*And that the studio doing the animation also did SAO, Black Butler, Blue Exorcist. List IdolM@ster if you have to; some people eat dat s*** up, so mentioning might actually help you.If the show is better than what episode 1 leads them to believe, then actually be honest with that. Tell the club "Hey guys, this series is pretty great, in my opinion. To be honest, episode 1 isn't all that great, but it gets a lot better as the series progresses. Wanna give it a shot?" Tourmaline
It would be awesome as hell if you tried to suggest JoJo, though. In terms of Shin Sekai Yori, I think it depends on the significance of meaning and symbolism to them. If they were watching Kill la Kill purely for fighting and no depth, then a majority of what your suggested anime excels at becomes null. Unless you suggest that the interpretation of anime becomes a focus of the club (though then you would be watching stuff like Lain, NHK, Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo). Oh, and about it being a novel, some people only read literature for superficial entertainment while others read stories to find entertainment brought by the challenge of interpretation and the insight it brings.
