Fate Reforged first card: Crux of Fate

Seeing this card made me want to post about magic the gathering. Go figure.

As inexperienced as I am this card reminded me how I respect Magic for simple, effective card design.

Things don't get a whole lot easier than pay five mana and pick what dies.

And while I can't really comment on the current state of the game I know enough to say that it feels right at home with other black cards I've encountered.

You should totally get into Magic, if only for the story. I started following the story all the way back in middle school (that was around Lorwyn, I think?) and I only started playing the past year.

I am merely interested in this card simply for the lore.
Someone mentioned an alternate timeline. Is this some sort of alternate future, or is this the actual future of M:tG?
Will a revived Ugin actually fight Nicol Bolas?

Iirc, this is this point of divergence for the timeline of Khans of Tarkir and Dragons of Tarkir. Killing all dragons represents KoT, killing everything else is DoT. So it's the pivot card of the whole block, so to speak.

Already? HYPE

flavor

black appropriately costed sweeper

oh god so gorgeous

Also, does that mean the alternate timeline is one where Bolas is dead?

Unlikely they will just kill off Bolas in the past when he has plans brewing in the present. Honestly, the thing thats more up in the air is what will happen to the eldrazi. My best guess is that Bolas will get the info he needs to still revive them, just Ugin won't die.

I know the Uncharted Realms stuff recently has been REALLY strong. I think with them dropping the magic novels they are putting a fair bit more effort into those.

I'd venture this to be more or less correct. Personally, DoT is going to be really interesting simply for the fact we'll see a bunch of characters from KoT reimagined.
