2 Level 8 monsters
While this card has Xyz Material, monsters cannot be Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, also any battle damage inflicted to your opponent by a direct attack is halved. During your opponent's End Phase: Detach 1 Xyz Material from this card. If this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: Destroy all cards on the field.

I submitted this in the Contest of the Stars, and it was considered a bit too strong by the judges. Now I would like to read the opinions of the community.

As I explained in the thread, I admit the card is strong, but that's because in my opinion it needed to pack a punch or otherwise it would have ended up outclassed by other official generic Rank8s with either powerful effects such as Felgrand Knight, or huge ATK like that Photon Dragon Xyz.

Anyways, in part this card is intended to be the Verzbuth/Spark Dragon/Black Rose Dragon a.k.a. nuke of the Rank8 pool, and even then, its nuking effect is slower than theirs. The supression effect was for flavor, to give it more utility, and make it harder to counter by the opponent summoning monsters such as Castel or S.H.Ark and play around its nuke effect. Also, in a way it can be compared to Crimson Blader.

So, it could be said this is a Crimson Blader + nuke for the Rank8 pool.

But there is more than that. You have to be careful when playing this card. For instance, if you want to lock the opponent, you risk your own field from being nuked if the opponent manages to remove it. My point is that while the lock effect is strong, you cannot safely take advantage of it; ideally you want to go for this only when you need the nuke more than the lock, or when you would take less losses than the opponent if the nuke goes off and usually that means you should be at disadvantage.

Flavor & trivia:

- From what I know about stars, when they die they go supernova, and to reflect that, this card goes nuke when it is removed.

- The lock effect is more or less a reference to the pressure stars generate during their late stages of life, and thus, this card exerts pressure on fellow Xyzs (which are made of antimatter according to their flavor, so in a way are related to the space) before it decays. It affects other Extra Deck monsters to make it relevant vs. Pendulums, Fusions, etc.

Thoughts?

The lock itself is pretty strong, and half the time the nuke will actually just add to everything. I don't recall R8 Decks having a ton of field set-up. You're just as likely to punch your opponent in the face with that nuke. Otherwise, I can't really comment on this card, haven't played in the metagame for a while and don't know what techs and card removal is being used at the moment. I do like the thought behind this card though.

Well, I strayed a bit from the meta as well, but last time I checked apparently effect negation (Skill Drain, Fiendish) and monster steal (E-Controller, Snatch Steal) are the way to go, while I believe Dimensional Prison is the go-to backrow if you don't have anything better to run. Rank8 decks aren't top tier material but a card like this may actually give them a chance vs. the meta, so in a way, this could effectively have an impact on it. What I'm not sure of is the strength of said impact.

Anyways, the way I see it, this card should be seen more as a Black Rose for Rank8s: You make it when you want the nuke. I mean, in my opinion you shouldn't be summoning this just to lock the opponent while you already have an established field, unless you are going for game or, again, can afford to "pay" the potential backfire nuke.

Well. This card by itself, much like Absolute Zero or Ophion, is its own established field. There is no need to play anything else, you can just sit on this card as your opponent must use a number of key resources to remove this (or just be unable to for two turns). The nuke effect is 50% of what makes the card good and will be unlikely to backfire in 90% of usage situations.

Loses to Nekroz but that doesn't ... yeah.
