Seeing yourself in TV

So... Here's a thought...

Do you consider it important if a show(doesn't matter what show it is) has a character(s) that are, basically, a reflection of yourself?

Yes.  Especially if you recognize it.  If it is a reflection of yourself that you like, it feels good, and I would think makes you feel great about yourself.  However, this situation can also make you analyze yourself, depending on how you see it.

I have always considered characters in fiction to have 'simpler' personalities when compared to real people, which shouldn't be surprising at all, seeing how a single person can be capable of writing several characters with different personalities and motivations while keeping them realistic.

So... I can relate to a lot of them, some more so than others... it kind of makes me think of the so called Barnum effect.

If I wanted a reflection of myself, I'd pull up one of those old clips from when I was on TV. The truest reflection.

More on topic... maybe? It depends on why you go to watch the show. What are you looking for? Are you looking to find someone to connect or relate with, or are you trying to walk a mile in someone else's shoes?
