Infinite Mirror Archetype [Written]

The schtick of this archetype is filling the field both sides with "Infinite Mirror" monsters to power-up the multiplication effects of their Synchro monsters. Because most of the monsters lack combat stats, they rely on redirection, stealing cards, destruction negation, and stat copying. They (theoretically) do best against stronger, self-reliant cards, and worst against weaker, combo-oriented decks.

Main Deck Monsters

Face of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Level 1 | Machine | Effect
0/0
If your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters, you may Special Summon this card (from your hand). When this monster is summoned: Special Summon 1 “Face of the Infinite Mirror Token” (Machine-Type/LIGHT/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0) to your opponent’s side of the field in the same position as this card. “Face of the Infinite Mirror Tokens” cannot be used as Tribute. If this card is destroyed, destroy 1 “Face of the Infinite Mirror Token” your opponent controls. If “Face of the Infinite Mirror Token” is destroyed: Destroy this card. This card you control and "Face of the Infinite Mirror Token" your opponent controls must be face-up on the field to resolve this effect.

Facet of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Level 1 | Machine | Effect
0/0
When this monster is Summoned: Special Summon 1 "Facet of the Infinite Mirror Token" (Machine-Type/LIGHT/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0) to your opponent's side of the field in the same position as this card. "Facet of the Infinite Mirror Tokens" cannot be used as Tribute. If this card is targeted for an attack or card effect: You can change the target to 1 "Facet of the Infinite Mirror Token" your opponent controls. If "Facet of the Infinite Mirror Token" is targeted for an attack or card effect: You can change the target to this card.  You can only use 1 "Facet of the Infinite Mirror" effect per effect, and only once for that effect. This card you control and "Facet of the Infinite Mirror Token" your opponent controls must be face-up on the field to resolve this effect.

Face and Facet of the Infinite Mirror allow you to put two monsters up for the price of one. Face is easier to summon, Facet lets you be a little tricky with redirection.

Id of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Level 1 | Machine | Effect
0/0
When this monster is attacked: This monster’s original ATK becomes equal to the ATK of the monster this card is battling until the end of damage calculation.

Ego of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Level 1 | Machine | Effect
0/0
When this monster is attacked: This monster’s level becomes equal to the level of the monster this card is battling until the end of your turn, and gains that monster’s effect until the end of damage calculation. This monster cannot be destroyed in battle.

Superego of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Level 1 | Machine | Effect
0/0
When this monster is attacked: This monster’s original DEF becomes equal to the DEF of the monster this card is battling until the end of damage calculation.

Id and Superego copy ATK and DEF, respectively. Ego can't be destroyed and can a variable level, which might make it easier to Synchro Summon (but not Xyz Summon, curiously). These three are the best fodder for Xyz Material.

Soul of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Level 1 | Machine | Tuner/Effect
0/0
You may use any “Infinite Mirror” monsters your opponent controls as Synchro Material Monsters when you Synchro Summon with this card.

Shards of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Level 1 | Machine | Tuner/Effect
0/0
When this card is sent to the Graveyard from the field: Special Summon 1 “Infinite Mirror” Monster from your Graveyard. Banish this from your hand, field, or Graveyard; add 1 Level 1 “Infinite Mirror” monster from your Graveyard to your hand.

Tuners. Soul lets you use the tokens from Face and Facet, Shards helps keep monsters on the field.

Extra Deck Monsters

Psyche of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Rank 1 | Machine | Xyz/Effect
2 Level 1 “Infinite Mirror” Monsters
0/0
This monster gains the effects of all its “Infinite Mirror” materials. If there are no duplicate XYZ Material and at least two XYZ Materials, this monster cannot be destroyed by targeted Monster card effects. When an “Infinite Mirror” monster is the target of an effect or battle, you may detach 1 XYZ Material from this card; change that target to any other “Infinite Mirror” monster.

Relatively cheap redirection for the whole board. Makes it a lot easier to trade that Blue-Eyes White Dragon for your Id of the Infinite Mirror when you can force it to attack it.

Subconscious of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Rank 1 | Machine | Xyz/Effect
2 Level 1 “Infinite Mirror” Monsters
This monster gains the effects of all its “Infinite Mirror” materials. If there are no duplicate XYZ Material and at least two XYZ Materials, this monster cannot be destroyed by untargeted (and only untargeted) card effects. Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you may detach 1 XYZ Material from this card; target one face-down Spell/Trap or Monster card; take control of it.

Steal two of their cards. Anything your opponent has must be better than this.

Mind of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Rank 1 | Machine | Xyz/Effect
3 Level 1 “Infinite Mirror” Monsters
0/0
This monster gains the effects of all its “Infinite Mirror” materials. If there are no duplicate XYZ Material and at least two XYZ Materials, this monster cannot be destroyed by targeted Spell or Trap card effects. You can detach 1 XYZ Material from this card; this monster’s ATK becomes 1000 times the number of “Infinite Mirror” monsters in your Graveyard, including the Material you just detached, until the end of the turn.

Your first proper beatstick. You can also sit on it with all the Xyz Material and set up.

Master of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Level 4 | Spellcaster | Synchro/Effect
1 “Infinite Mirror” Tuner + 1 or more LIGHT monsters
2000/1200
Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can inflict 500 damage for each face-up Machine-type “Infinite Mirror” monster on the field. This card cannot attack on the same turn you activate this effect. If this card would be destroyed, target one other “Infinite Mirror” monster on the field; destroy that card to negate this card’s destruction.

Of course, the dream is two Masters + eight Mirrors for 8000 damage. It's a decent card on it's own, even if you have no Mirrors set up.

Narcissist of the Infinite Mirror
LIGHT | Level 5 | Spellcaster | Synchro/Effect
1 “Infinite Mirror” Tuner + 1 or more “Infinite Mirror” monsters
?/0
This monster’s original ATK is 800 times the number of face-up “Infinite Mirror” monsters on the field, excluding other Spellcaster-type “Infinite Mirror” monsters. If your opponent controls only “Infinite Mirror” monsters, this monster may attack directly. You may only control one “Narcissist of the Infinite Mirror.”

All you need is nine other Mirrors plus this for 8000 ATK and a direct attack. Simple, right?

----

Spells/Trap Cards

Shatter in the Infinite Mirror - Trap
If an “Infinite Mirror” monster would be destroyed by battle: That “Infinite Mirror” monster is not destroyed; destroy the attacking monster, and if that effect resolves: Target one other card on your opponent’s field; destroy that card.

Retaliation of the Infinite Mirror - Trap
If an “Infinite Mirror” monster is attacked: That attack target’s ATK becomes equal to the ATK of the attacking monster’s ATK times the number of “Infinite Mirror” monsters on the field; the ATK reverts at the end of damage calculation.

This is your other OTK ticket, especially if your opponent is swinging strong monsters. A 3000 ATK... attacker only needs four Mirrors to return enough damage for an OTK. 1000 ATK needs a full 9 Mirrors.

Revelation in the Infinite Mirror - Counter Trap
If an “Infinite Mirror” monster is the target of an effect or battle: Reveal your opponent’s face-down Spell/Trap cards. You may target one revealed or face-up Spell/Trap cards; take control of it and activate it.

Maze of the Infinite Mirror - Field Spell
During your Standby Phase, if you control an “Infinite Mirror” monster, you may Special Summon one “Infinite Mirror” monster from your deck.

You're not going to win if you don't fill the board, so get to it!

Sphere of the Infinite Mirror - Field Spell
When you Normal Summon an “Infinite Mirror” monster, Special Summon “Endless Infinite Mirror Tokens” (Machine-Type/LIGHT/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0) in the same position as the monster you Normal Summoned onto each unoccupied monster slot on both sides of the field. When this card leaves the field, destroy all “Endless Infinite Mirror Tokens.” “Endless Infinite Mirror Tokens” cannot be used as Tribute or in a Special Summon. If any “Endless Infinite Mirror Token” is destroyed, destroy all “Endless Infinite Mirror Tokens.” If there are no unoccupied monster slots on their field, either player may banish one “Endless Infinite Mirror Token” on their field to Normal Summon or Set, alongside any other requirements.

This is the easier way of filling the board for your dream set-ups. Of course, if you're not already at least partially set-up, this will slow your development to a crawl....

True Form in the Infinite Mirror - Equip Spell
The equipped monster’s name becomes “True Form in the Infinite Mirror,” and becomes a Machine-type LIGHT monster.

Deal with that last pesky monster in the way of your finisher, redirect an unpleasant effect back at your opponent, or jack one of their cards for a Synchro Summon with Soul.

Your last bump made me laugh.

I like this, and I'd love to see a villain in the anime use a Deck like this. I have a couple notes:

- A lot of your OTK's seem really finicky and hard to pull of consistently.

- Sphere seems at once both broken (fill up your opponent's field) and weak (at least as a field spell; I could see it as a Continuous Spell). I don't know how to feel about a card that, after 1 Summon, fills up the field with Tokens that can't be Tributed or used to Xyz/Synchro.

The first thing I thought of... Machine Duplication. Gets any of your mirrors out in multiples and helps fill the board.

As for the archetype itself, it honestly seems more like a stall/anti-meta archetype than one that focuses on OTKs. Consistency also looks to be an issue here since the triggers involve getting out loads of infinite mirrors to work and is also highly dependant on the opponent.

It is also laughable against alternate win conditions, combos, and decks that don't need to attack or that attack directly. It is also a deck that doesn't appear to pressure the opponent, giving them infinite (pun intended) setup time.

If there was a way to instill pressure on your opponent by making them attack or by giving these guys a second means of winning besides OTKing, it would greatly improve their overall strategy.

It certainly is a very "villain" deck, what with Narcissist and such.

Well, I had my concerns about the OTK being too reliable. Perhaps, given OTK is (purportedly) the strenth of this deck, perhaps I should look to make it more reliable.

Sphere, thematically anyway, makes sense as a field spell. (You're in a sphere of mirrors, if that helps with the visualization.) On the mechanics of the spell, it's certainly unorthodox. My fear with potentially giving both players five tokens to work with was why the tokens are not allowed to be used in summons.

Well, let's look at the purpose of Sphere. Really, it's used to quickly flood the field after getting out something like Narcissist for that OTK. It's not really a spell you play to maintain a small advantage, like most field spells are. Perhaps that's where your hang-up lies. That said, although I do not think I will scrap Sphere, perhaps we can make a non-field spell variant.

Cascade of the Infinite Mirror - Quickplay Spell
When you summon an “Infinite Mirror” monster, Special Summon “Endless Infinite Mirror Tokens” (Machine-Type/LIGHT/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0) in the same position as the monster you Normal Summoned onto each unoccupied monster slot on both sides of the field. “Endless Infinite Mirror Tokens” cannot be used as Tribute or in a Special Summon.

It might need a little tweaking, but if we loosen the requirement for the trigger in exchange for not being permanent, it actually makes the combo more reliable. Whether it is too reliable remains to be discussed, however.

Machine Duplication is good for swarming (synergy with Face and Facet, assuredly), but the issue with it is that the Xyz's do their best work with unique materials.

Well, stall and OTK are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Anti-meta, though, is a term I didn't think of, but I think does explain part of the purpose behind the deck. It's a matter of value propositions. It doesn't matter how fancy your monster is, I'll just trade it for Id, and come out ahead, especially if it's the only one on the field. On the other hand, if you have a bunch of lower-level monsters or combo pieces, trading those pieces is a much worse value proposition to me, especially if you have multiple monsters on the field.

As for its weaknesses... yup, it's weak to a bunch of things. No contest there. I wouldn't say that there's infinite time, since this has its own clock, too.

I will say that, as a matter of consistent swarming, that is the purpose of Sphere.

Well, there exist cards that force battles already. Not sure what extra flavor I'd want to put in to a archetype-specific card. Mind and Master both have a non-OTK presence. Is there anything in particular you'd suggest?
