Raigeki Dragon - First of a new Thunder Archetype

Recommended Posts

I'v been working on writing my own Yugioh fan fiction sort of deal. Anyway I've been playing around with a few ideas in my head, and this was one of the ones i had for my main character's ace monster. He'd use a Thunder Archetype all labeled Raigeki. It would focus on getting out pairs of thunder monsters which mainly searched or had anti-meta type effects. Anyway here is one of the ideas i had for his 2500 boss monster. I am determined to have his cards be good, and have a deck that is completely playable, but not broken

Raigeki Dragon

Attribute: Light

Level: 7

Type: Dragon/Effect

Atk / 2500 Def / 2000

While face-up on the field or in the graveyard, this card is also a Dragon-Type. If you control two Thunder-Type monsters, you can special summon this card from your hand or graveyard. When this card is special summoned target two face up cards on the field, and negate their effects until your next standby phase. Each effect of Raigeki Dragon can only be used once per turn.

Hmm, I can't give too much of a consensus outside of What I already know in the game, and usually this is a mistake I see often where people try to introduce a card from their archetype even though the source for it is unknown. Is it available to see elsewhere, because if it is, I can give my full opinions.

As it stands as a stand-alone, It feels like it is a pretty good Tech Card for Batteryman and Watts which could desperately use the support. The effect negation feels fair enough considering the Type it has to carry around and helps to stop some of the pesky cards that would stop those decks in their tracks like potentially Winda or Naturia Beast. It wouldn't make them tier 1 by any means, but it could help them push for a tier 2 spot and see if they could become relevant.

OCG Fix: While this card is face-up on the field or in your Graveyard, this card is also a Dragon-Type monster. If you control 2 face-up Thunder-Type monsters, you can Special Summon this card from your Hand or Graveyard, and if you do, target 2 face-up cards on the field; Negate those effects until your next Standby Phase. You can only use each effect of "Raigeki Dragon" once per turn.

Since it doesn't involve any Archetypal cards, you can just grade it as is, based on the standards in the existing card pool.

Anyway, Thunder-Type Decks are rather rare lately (save for Batteries and whatever), but it is still negation on a 2.5K body for any Deck that can run it.

Name-wise, doesn't really fit the flavor (you'd probably think this card would destroy stuff upon summoning, but rather it just negates two cards on the field).

Although yes, it can still lock down certain monsters (or cards in any case). For the most part, it just paralyzes cards for a turn or so, which often cripples them.

Do keep in mind though that because this card's 2nd effect triggers on ANY Special Summon, any Deck that can afford to run this card and SS it will likely do it.

To avoid being restrictive, I could suggest that you change its negation effect to "up to 2", as so you don't end up negating your own monsters.

(You realize that because this card lacks "up to", if you opt to use the effect and the opponent lacks suitable targets; your own gets hit.)

Also, quick OCG fix:

This card is treated as a Dragon-Type monster while face-up on the field or in the Graveyard. If you control 2 face-up Thunder-Type monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand or Graveyard). If this card is Special Summoned: You can target 2 face-up cards on the field, and if you do, negate their effects until your next Standby Phase. You can only activate each effect of "Raigeki Dragon" once per turn.

OCG is fixed so that last limitation makes sense. First one is its SSing effect, second is the negation one. Given the above member's wording, he had it joined with the SSing effect, which wouldn't make sense for its effect. Remember that the first one is a continuous one. This is also why the OCG numbering system would be useful here.

Thank you for the ocg fixes. I will admit i have a tendency to make error in that area. I do want the effect to activate whenever he is special summoned, and not just by his own effect. I feel that it adds a splash-able quality to the card that i like to have in my designs. The "Up To" clause is  good idea, as i realized that you would have to target two cards regardless of whether your opponent had them or not, but debated on if maybe i wanted that. Your recommendation swayed me to that side though.  I feel that this card sits nicely with Denko Sekka and Thunder King Rai-oh as additional thunder control support. As for the name, i thought it sounded better then "Thunderbolt Dragon" and my original effect had do deal with searching raigeki cards, but that was scrapped.
