Eating bugs.

I'd try mealworms if given the opportunity. They're supposed to taste really nutty, with a bit of a bitter finish.

Now that I think of it, I do work at a pet shop in the summers. Maybe next time I have shifts I'll grab some from the freezer...

EDIT: Also, in terms of health, insects are one of the lowest biomass sources of protein. It takes the least energy to harvest 1 pound of insect meat compared to 1 pound of fish or cow meat. Better for the earth and all.

I have a serious phobia of insects and such. Spiders are the worst, but I know they are eaten quite frequently in some cultures. I just couldn't bring myself to eat something I am terrified of. Yes, I know its completely irrational and if other people enjoy eating insects, that's cool.

This is me, really. I've had friends who liked grasshopper, but I could never get over eating the texture or the idea that I'm eating a bug.

It will take a while for Western people to get used to eating insects and bugs. Phobia I believe also contributes to the fear factor as well. It's pretty unnerving eating tiny creatures with multiple long, hairy legs with some cringeworthy texture when you can imagine eating all of it. Generally most other 3rd world countries will eat certain bugs because it's one of their only sources of protein and food despite its miniscule quantity, and there's some cultural mix too. I think it's just a combination of being completely unnecessary bringing an insect market to the global government-operated field, while most consumers would just completely ostracize it.

Some Westerns might think others are freaks or just plain unbelievable for eating deep-fried tarantula, but they gotta try to step in their shoes when they realize they have a hard life.

If they're done right, insects actually taste really good when you give them the right kind of ingredients to mix with them. I've personally tried eating quite a few insects (okay, I was just curious and not forced to), but they aren't that bad, guys.

...though I did have the unfortunate opportunity of remembering I ate grass once when I was 4 and that was just kinda chewy like a salad

Someone told me that it has almost the same taste as prawns.

I would be glad to try this....  :D
