mariofreak12
I had a great idea for a new subcategory idea, which I still don't have a good name for it, that I call Beckon. An easy way to explain is a monster that cannot be Normal Summoned and can only be Special Summoned by completing a certain task (and only by that way), and can be Special Summoned from the graveyard, or that is removed from play, by completing a harder task. Like other monsters they become more powerful and harder to summon the higher the level. The cards I made are just examples and quick ideas I came up with for an example. I would love any insight for correction of wording, name for the card category, or anything else helpful. Lore: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or set. This card must be special summoned by the requirements printed bellow. If you activate 2 Spell cards during your Main Phase 2 you can Special Summon this card (From your hand) in face up Attack position or face down Defense position. If this card is in the graveyard and your opponent activates a chain of 3 or higher (Without counting duplicates) you can special summon this card from the graveyard; This card gains 500 Atk and Def for every chain used to Summoned this card. Lore: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or set. This card must be special summoned by the requirements printed bellow. If you control no Monsters on your side of the field you can Special Summon this card (From your hand) in face up Attack position or face down Defense position. If this card is in the graveyard and your opponent deals direct damage; Special summon this card from the graveyard in face up Defense position. If you do this card has 2500 Def and 0 Atk. Lore: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or set. This card must be special summoned by the requirements printed bellow. When a Dragon-Type Monster is sent to the graveyard you can Special Summon this card (From your hand) in face up Attack position or face down Defense position. Dragon-Type Monsters cannot change their battle position or be used to summon other monsters while this card is face up on the field. If this card is in the graveyard while you have more cards on the field than dragons in your opponent's graveyard; Special Summon this card from the graveyard. All dragons in the graveyard or sent to the graveyard are banished. Lore: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or set. This card must be special summoned by the requirements printed bellow. When 2 or more of your Monsters you control have been destroyed, you can Special Summon this card (From your hand) in face up Attack position or face down Defense position. This card is unaffected by trap cards. If this card is in the graveyard while you control 4 Monsters on the field; Special Summon this card from the graveyard. This card can negate the activation of a trap card and destroy it. Lore: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or set. This card must be special summoned by the requirements printed bellow. If you Tribute 2 monsters and discard a card you can Special Summon this card (From your hand) in face up Attack position or face down Defense position. When this card is flipped face up roll a die and send cards on the field back to the owners hand equal to the number rolled. If this card is in the graveyard you can banish 4 cards from your hand; Special Summon this card from the graveyard. This card gains 200 Atk x the number of cards on your opponent's field and in both players hand. Lore: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or set. This card must be special summoned by the requirements printed bellow. If your opponent takes control of one of your Monsters, equips it to a card, or uses it to summon a Monster, you can Special Summon this card (From your hand) in face up Attack position or face down Defense position. When this card is targeted by an attack or a card effect you can change the target to another card on the field. If this card is in the graveyard while you take 2500 or more points of damage; Special Summon this card from the graveyard. This card gains Atk equal to the amount of battle damage you took to Summon this card. Lore: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or set. This card must be special summoned by the requirements printed bellow. If you have 2800 or less LP you can Special Summon this card (From your hand) in face up Attack position or face down Defense position. Once per turn by discarding your entire hand (Min 3) this card gains Atk equal to the difference of you and your opponent's LP until the end of that turn. If this card is in the graveyard you can pay all of your Life Points and send all the cards in your deck to the graveyard except 5 ; Special Summon this card from the graveyard. This card gains 200 Atk and Def for every card in both players graveyard. This cards effects cannot be negated. When this card leaves the field you loose the duel This is an updated post. ♪ ♪Aria ♪ ♪
For "Guardian of the Envoy", paying all your life points means death literally, before you can even attack, so it's a bit useless, plus opponent can use "Different Dimensional" cards to remove it from play, and when it leaves the field, you'll lose

Rakkis157
How are these cards different from, say, Malefic Cyber End Dragon or Gate Guardian, considering that their summoning methods seem to vary far too much to consider them a subcategory? Rakkis157
They lack consistency in how they behave, though. All Union, Toon, Tuner and Spirit monsters all have very, very similar effects to each other card in that same category, while flip monsters makes it very, very clear on how they will behave. Beckon cards seem everywhere as far as special summoning is concerned. Monsters that can only be special summoned consist of at least a tenth of all monster cards, and honestly, your summoning methods, aside from the chain link one, aren't all that new to the point that they need a whole new subcategory imo. How is, for starters, Apparition of the Reckoning any different from a Cyber Dragon combined with an Esper Star Sparrow, other than the fact that it has both their effects in one? Seanoow
The biggest issue with most of these is practicality. Even though you could duel 100x against duelists who use #101, you still can't be positive everyone will use it. It is difficult to rely on your opponent, and these cards are difficult to use on their own. You might not even have a chance to summon them. I was working on an identical idea roughly a year ago though due to complications the set wasn't finished. If your interested I wouldn't mind making a few cards to help pull everything together. I have thought of a couple cards that act just like normal summoning or tribute summoning. I also have some plans to support special summoning.
