CuriousHeartless
I believe this is worded mostly correctly, but it may be a bit wonky. I'm not sure how useful this is, maybe it's actually broken and I just don't see it. If it's too strong, I might change it from Rank 4 to Rank 3; if it's too weak I might cut 'with the same type as that Monster'. Also, by this point, I'm far more used to Magic than Yu-Gi-Oh!, so hopefully I remember to put Monster and not Creature. Fading Black TrapNormal TrapWhen a Rank 7 or higher Xyz Monster you control would leave the field by a card effect: Negate that monster's destruction. Xyz Summon from your Extra Deck 1 Rank 4 or lower monster, by using that monster as Xyz Material (Attached Xyz Materials also become Xyz Material on the Summoned Monster.) Sleepy
On the balance department you are fine. Even on the under-powered side, actually. To begin with, your card requires s specific setup to be able to activate. You need to be able to make a Rank 7 or higher Xyz monster. Even if you use it in a deck dedicated to the Xyz Summon of Rank 7s or Rank 8s, it has the potential to be a dead draw very badly if your field just got taken down and you were depending on it. This already demotes the card to "potential tech" status at most before even looking at the actual effect. Second: You are reliant on the opponent doing a very specific action.Destruction is still fairly common, but it is far from the only way of removal in this game anymore, so your using a card with this condition is already a gamble as it is, even if the "Rank 7+" or even the "Xyz" restrictions above weren't here. Third: You are ranking down.As Ranks go down, typically the monsters are weaker, and high Rank decks typically specialize on such Ranks to the degree that not all of them are capable of bringing out low Ranks normally. This means that the spot(s) in your Extra Deck that occupy these low Rank monsters are dead and unreachable unless you have the trap go off successfully, meanwhile using up space, and some decks are pretty tight on their Extra Deck, even if some of the targets can be good ones (like changing a Photon Dragon for Evolzar Dolkka or Laggia). That is without mentioning that your card doesn't treat the Special Summon as an Xyz Summon, so the new monster is unrevivable by any means afterwards. Some of those are alright, especially here in the casual cards section, but it feels like a little bit of overkill to have this much soooo. I suggest the following: -Make the monster be treated as a proper Xyz Summon-Have it activate when said Xyz Summon when it would be destroyed by an effect, not just your opponent's. (Actually, I'm tempted to suggest "when it leaves the field by a card effect" and make it easier, but I'm not entirely sure). The concept itself is a fun one, and I like that it explores in Rank Down, which the series dropped and forgot about after making it exclusive for Utopia's use originally. The biggest issue is the difference between 7+ and 4 or less as themes, but I suppose that is what keeps it casual. Your wording is alright, no need to worry about it. There are minor details like how you don't need to capitalize every single word "monster", but it isn't a big deal, you got your idea across. CuriousHeartless
Thank you. I did the fixes you suggested, as well as cutting the 'with the same type as that monster' and uncapitalizing all the occurrences of 'monster' except for 'Xyz Monster'. I have a habit of capitalizing important things even if they shouldn't be (I don't know how many times I wrote Xyz as XYZ). Yeah, I wanted to make a card to play with ranking down, and I figured the idea of a big Xyz becoming a smaller one to escape danger was nice so I came up with this.
