Pokémon Suna - Season 1 (The Gym Battles!) (PG-16/Accepting/OOC/NS)

The Island of Suna.

While the island itself may not appear as much more than a barren sahara from afar, there are great marvels to be seen and wondrous experiences yet to be revealed. Upon the golden sands of this island, trainers are put to the test; their battling skills, along with their resolve as trainers, will be strewn out for all to judge. Kept secret from the mass media, mystery clouds the island, many questioning if it even really exists. Trainers are put through a series of Challenges in the form of Pokemon Gyms. Unlike most Gyms, however, these have very special rules and conditions, and there are also only four Gyms in Suna. Trainers must defeat each Gym Leader in order to move on to the next. Once all four badges are obtained, the Suna Pokemon League is the next target, complete with an Elite Four and Champion.

Trainers are asked to bring along only their strongest Pokemon, as the island is home to dangerous wild Pokemon, the conditions of the island hardening them into creatures of pure instinct and, some would even argue, bloodlust. High-leveled and extremely aggressive, many trainers actually push themselves to catch these powerful Pokemon. Suna is home to many Ground-Type Pokemon, almost exclusively so, with a few exceptions here and there. Trainers are invited to the island via letters, oddly enough, as most of the world has moved on to electronic means of contact. The letter will be delivered directly to the trainer by a Shiny Gliscor; the difference in color being a light blue or teal main exterior, along with yellow accents.

Within the letter will be a formal invitation along with a ticket to the island, which is designed specifically for each trainer. Attempting to sell the ticket would be useless, as they are designed to exact specifications depending on who they belong to. Bringing the ticket to any dock will ensure they arrive at the island within at least three days, depending on the region in which they depart from. A cruise ship will make multiple stops along all the known regions to pick up passengers, then depart. The windows of the ship are tinted, and electromagnetic fields keep passengers within the ship. This is to ensure the privacy of the island, and to ensure the media doesn't find out where it is actually located.

For one reason or another, you have been invited to this island. Will you be able to overcome the odds and work your way to the top? Or will you crumble beneath the overwhelming power of Suna? Time to see what you're made of.

[spoiler=Locations]Tesauna Port
While not really a city or town, Tesauna Port is where the ferry will arrive to drop the trainers off on the island. Upon exiting the ship, passengers will notice that they are within a building resembling the Slateport Harbor in Hoenn, the design of the building actually being the exact same. Exiting the building, trainers will be greeted by a delightfully cool breeze, but no sand will be in sight. A ground made of metal tiles, and a large dome surrounding the makeshift cityscape, Tesauna is meant as a starting point, a place for trainer's to prepare themselves by stocking up on items from the Poké Mart and to test themselves against the first Suna Gym. This will introduce them to the Gym layout of the island, and will in turn prove to them whether or not they belong on the island. The "Special Attraction" includes a virtual Pokemon database, able to pull up an image of nearly every known Pokemon species, aside from Arceus and Mew. This is located within the Gym, within the Leader's training area, subtly tempting the trainers to dive headfirst into battling. Upon defeating the Gym Leader, a trainer will receive a Badge, a TM and Goggles to protect their eyes in the desert.
Route 1
Upon exiting the protective bubble of Tesauna, located to the south, trainers will be immediately exposed to the elements. High-speed winds and mountains of sand will batter them endlessly, a hot sun beating down on them as well. A trail is cut through the sand to direct them to the next town, the metal tile from Tesauna shooting through the desert in a thin line of four tiles. Magnetic forces keep the tiles from being covered in sand, but will provide no protection to the trainers. Many Pokemon hide within the sands, including Sandslash, Dugtrio and Graveler. Trainers must be wary of disrupting or toppling sand dunes, as these usually house these Pokemon, and may drive them to attack. After about a mile of walking, the second town will be within reach, covered in a large dome as well, sealed by electronic doors. Revealing the badge from the first Gym will allow access, opening the doors long enough for one person to move inside.
Doton Town
In far contrast of Tesauna, which has a strictly streamlined design, Doton Town is made up of several mud huts. Each hut is easily as large as a normal building of this century, though it can be difficult to tell certain establishments apart. Some places in the town will offer free cooked meals, along with cold refreshments, as a sort of congratulations for making it to the next town. There is a limit of one meal per trainer per day, however. Food and refreshments are provided for Pokemon as well. The ground in Doton town is sand, though kept moist through a series of tubes beneath it. These tubes pump water directly into the ground below the saint, moistening it to an almost muddy composition. Trainers are advised to roll up their pants and take off their shoes, lest they ruin their clothing. There is a Gym in this town as well; victors receive a Badge, a TM and an item to be decided by the Gym Leader. This item must be given to each trainer, however, and cannot be changed.
Route 2
To the east, trainer may exit Doton Town. While the ground remains a bit sandy here and there, the ground appears to be hard and earthy from the start and on into the horizon, resembling a mountain trail. Because of this, there is no arrow pointing to the next area, as the trainers are trusted to use common sense. High mountains climb into the sky on either side of the trainers, turning this route into a valley. Small amounts of brush and shrubs dot the mountains, caves and burrows lining the lower areas. Graveler, Golem, Onix, Steelix and Golbat can be located within the main levels of the caves. Deeper within them, however, sources of water are located, appearing as underground lakes. Within these waters are wild Feraligatr, along with their young. The Croconaw and Totodile are chipped to prevent their capture, but the Feraligatr are available for capture. The small amounts of greenery about the mountain faces are home to wild Shiftry and Roserade. These Grass Pokemon are special in that they make their homes on a permanent slant, the mountain face never truly flattening. As such, they have developed keen balancing skills. At the end of the valley, the trainers are stopped in their tracks by a third mountain, this one directly between the two that had been on either side. Truly massive,  the peak pokes up through the clouds, hiding it from the trainers. Luckily, there is a Cable Car that makes frequent trips back and forth to take trainers to the top. Not in a dome, the next town is shown to be on the peak of the mountain. However, in a shock to the senses, the peak of the mountain seems to have been ground down flat, a massive circle serving as the top. The Cable Car will drop trainers off near the edge of the mountain and race back down to await more passengers.
Mt. Onikaze
The town located at the top of the mountain simply takes the name of said land mass; Mt. Onikaze. Eerily named, it could be argued that the town matches the grim title. On the stone that covers the surface of the flattened peak, buildings can be seen stretched all across the wide, circular area. Every building has been designed according to old, Gothic-style architecture. Street lamps line the winding path that passes each building. The air is quite thin here, making it difficult for the trainers and some of their Pokemon to breathe. The third Gym is located here. Multiple eating establishments are here as well, much like Doton Town, though the quality of food is much higher. An armory is also located here, and upon meeting conditions determined by the owner, they may craft authentic medieval armor for your Pokemon, which may be used during any battle on the island to provide extra defensive capabilities. This armor may also be stored in a Pokeball with the Pokemon wielding it. Close to the Gym, there is a Graveyard dedicated to the trainers that lost their lives during their journey through Suna. While there aren't any bodies beneath the stone, there is a large tombstone dedicated to any and all that pass away on the island. For many, this is a wakeup call, grabbing their attention and forcing them to realize how dangerous their environment truly is. Upon defeating the Gym Leader, victors receive a Badge, a TM and a one-size-fits-all heat-retardant suit. (A heat-resistant bag will be provided as well, to keep items brought along safe.)
Route 3
On the opposite end of the mountain, another Cable Car can be found. Moving down this side of the mountain, a dam is revealed to be wrapped around it, hooking directly into the landform. However, instead of holding back water, this dam actually protects the valley from an extreme amount of magma. Another dome covers the wide area of magma, stretching from the dam outward. The purpose of the dome is to keep temperatures hot enough to keep the magma from cooling into lava. It could be inferred that the domes are to help simulate a magma chamber. A hardened, rock-like walkway snakes through this ocean of magma, stilted only about six yards up from the red ooze. Many yards away from the rocky path, there are large rocks floating about, serving as small islands to wild Pokemon. Such Pokemon include Rhydon, Rhyperior, Camerupt and Magmortar. The Magmortar, however, are the only Pokemon that seem to swim freely though the magma. The heat-retardant suits acquired from the previous Gym Leader are completely needed here, as the blazing hot environment will cook trainers in a matter of minutes, perhaps less. At the end of the bridge-like walkway, the dome is stopped, connecting into yet another structure. However, upon reaching the doors, these will open automatically, allowing access into what appears to be a large, metal box.
Byte Labs
Moving directly from the magma chamber, trainers will first enter a room about twenty feet by twenty feet, complete with cold metal floors, walls and ceiling. Once the door closes completely, vents will open from the walls, pouring in a mist of cold air to cool off any and all persons and materials. Once a proper temperature has been read, another pair of doors will open in front of the trainers. This allows access to Byte Labs; a steel building containing countless corridors and rooms full of electronic generators and varying experiments. This is where electricity is pumped throughout the entire island, powering most functions of each town. Operators in lab coats frequently move throughout the building, murmuring to themselves. Here, trainers can find the Lead Scientist and receive a pass that allows them to re-enter any of the previous towns. Before, if trainers tried to go back, the doors would remain closed. The pass would allow them to go back for meals, to stock up, etc, for this would be the last stop before they arrived at the final Gym. There will be no way to get food here, but there are rooms with beds to allow trainers one last place to rest.
Tetrodotox Tunnel
At the far end of Byte Labs, there is a purple door that will be opened upon revealing the past three badges. The doors open and lead directly into a dimly-lit tunnel that moves underground. Narrow at first, it eventually expands the further the trainers move down, eventually being revealed as a large cave beneath the surface. Large puddles of green and purple sludge can be seen all around the ground floor of the cave, and some argue that they have seen shapes moving beneath them. This poisonous can seriously hurt trainers and Pokemon if touched or ingested. Pokemon can resist it to a degree, though it will cause serious poisoning. Humans, however, will need to avoid it at all costs. About a mile into the cave, an area spread out before anyone approaching will be revealed as the final Gym, the cave itself serving as the platform.

[spoiler=Travis. S. Permafrost]"Normal/Generic" Trainer

"G-Generic? Are you kiddin' me!?"

---------------------------------

Name: Travis S. Permafrost

Gender/Sex: Male

Age: 15

Appearance: Travis is... well... an unimpressive Trainer, to say the least. Standing at a measly 5'4", he's used to being the shortest in not only his group of friends, but in his group of Pokemon too. Even more unfortunate for the poor guy is how skinny he is. He's healthy, mind you, but weighing in at little over 100 is not something he personally considers an achievement. Besides this, he has an impish face, with a slanted nose and smiling chocolate eyes that complement his caramel skin. However, he constantly appears tired due to the bags under his eyes that he just can't seem to get rid of. He has a cleft chin and the most defining feature of his head: his snow-white, pointed ears. Nobody knows why their like that: the doctors say it's just a birth defect. Either way, he hides it either under his short, black hair, or his grey skull cap; it has a small Pokeball-shaped badge in the middle of it, and it's obvious he's had it since the start of his journey.

He wears a trio of necklaces around his thin neck, each one a reminder of a region he's visited: his thin, black cord with a triplet of emotion beads he got in Sinnoh, the shark's tooth one he got in Hoenn, and the one that looks like a Silver Wing he got in Kanto. Under these necklaces, he wears a purple pullover hoodie with a white insignia that looks vaguely like a Rare Bone with a pair of plus and minus marks on either of its sides. Underneath this, he wears a bleached-white, button up shirt with a small collar. He has a silver chain around his left wrist, and a Giratina tattoo on his right hand. Finally, he wears a pair of grey skinny jeans and a loose-fitting belt with silver buckle that's only really there for show, since he holds all his Pokeballs in his hoodie pocket. His shoes are a pair of grey track shoes with blue racing stripes down them. His backpack's a black, over-the-shoulder swimming bag.

Personality: While pretty quiet around those he doesn't like or doesn't know, Travis can be quite rambunctious and loud, especially around friends and close acquaintances. He's a dumb teen, for sure, but he does know his stuff. He wasn't in honors classes for nothing, and he knows it. One of his favourite hobbies is bragging around his friends, usually about how awesome he is or how great he looks. Of course, he doesn't do these things and actually believe them (well, maybe a little). He's surprisingly modest when he's serious, though those situations rarely come. There are two words his friends would use to describe him, in the end. Funny and reliable, since he finds it hard to see a friend down on their luck and not help them. Almost impossible even. Sadly, once you really start talking to him, he starts to consider you his friend, and lets his guard down. If a truly malicious person were to take advantage of him, this'd bee the easiest way to do it.

Region of Origin: Sinnoh - Twinleaf Town

Biography: Travis's birth is something best left for history to forget. After all, nobody talks about it, so why should we? Though, it would explain his ears and his comfort around just about any Pokemon but discomfort around people. Still, despite this, it's not like he's had a hard life. He's lived middle class all of his life, and has enjoyed just about every pleasure a kid like him could want. Sometimes he wouldn't get the toy or game he wanted, but that was life. It wasn't like money grew on trees. In school, though, he was stellar. Getting straight A's for as long as he can remember, all he knows is that, while the courses are hard, learning comes easy to him, when it comes to simple things like Algebra and Geometry.  He went through Middle School with his friends, laughing it up, and even found time to complete freshman year of Highschool before setting off on his journey. There, he said goodbye to close friends like Gabe and Eric, and hello to new friends and rivals, Nolan and Andrew.

When he picked his starter Pokemon, Happyfeet the Empoleon (Piplup at the time), he had no idea of the misadventure he'd have going through Sinnoh. His first day on the job he was knocked unconscious by a falling Starly that'd somehow fallen asleep flying. It was an easy first catch, but a hard Pokemon to get rid of. Because of that, Skylenz the Staraptor, a staple of Travis's current team, instantly became a close friend and trusted ally. From there, they moved to Jubilife, catching a few Pokemon here and there, one of which would make it onto his final team: a Budew he named Lady Ivy. She was integral in the battle against Roark, since without her, Happyfeet wouldn't have been able to beat both Roark's Onix and his Cranidos. After that battle, Happyfeet evolved into Prinplup, and they were on their journey once again.

It wasn't until Eterna Forest that issues began to arise during Travis's journey. A crack unit of Pokemon Poachers, named Ouroboros, plagued the forest, stealing Pokemon left and right. In the confusion, Travis's team was accidentally sprayed with a (currently untested) bottle of pheromones, that caused the Pokemon to temporarily morph into human counterparts: Gijinka. While they'd lost some of their battle prowess, Skylenz was still able to evolve with no hitch in his altered state, and by the time the left the Eterna Forest, they'd returned to normal.

At some time they had the chance to add a Gible to their team, in which Travis refused, claiming that Dragons were "Overrated little runts with a major weakness to themselves." It was later after this statement he caught the most intrusive member of his final team, the one that nearly drove them apart, Paladin. He was a cocky little runt of a Ralts, that only served to pester and annoy Happyfeet. Everything was fine, until they reached Veilstone. This was where Ouroboros was really set up: their black net of evil spread wide across the city. They supplied the Game Corner with Pokemon, and powered much of the city off of stolen Electric Pokemon. On top of this, Paladin evolved immediately when entering the city, without having battled nearly enough Pokemon to do so, which should've been a worry right off the bat. From there, however, he dragged them about the city, and all the way down to Pastoria, all so he could find a Dawn Stone to evolve. And that's when his true side showed. Stealing away Happyfeet's title of leader, his title as strongest Pokemon on the team, and even stealing Lady Ivy's heart from him, Paladin was a monster. All the while, Travis was ignorant to his starter's pain and grief, and in the end, lost his first (and so far only) battle. It was against Maylene, who wiped the floor with his bickering team, causing him to grow angry with the insubordinate Happyfeet, who promptly ran away.

The next few months of the story are blurry for Travis, who spent that time hunting down Happyfeet madly, needing his starter by his side. By the time he found him, he'd evolved into Empoleon, as to not disappoint Travis anymore. However, the broken right-most prong of his mask and the long, pink scar running down Paladin's arm tell a different story than Happyfeet finding and saving Paladin, who'd been searching for him too (but in reality, simply wanted to kill him so he'd never come back and win over Lady Ivy). Nothing of interest happened between then and Snowpoint, besides Travis catching the final two members of his team: Gaia the Rhyperior and Starfire the Magmortar, and the obtaining of Veilstone's, Pastoria's, and Canalave's badges.

It's said that before he could obtain his 7th Badge, Travis had to save Snowpoint from Regigigas, who'd been revived to destroy northern Sinnoh at the hand of Ourboros, who'd suddenly grown bold in their terrorist actions against Sinnoh. Luckily, thanks to Gaia's evolution, he was able to handle the beast with surprising conciseness.

In one final effort to be rid of Travis and Sinnoh, Ourboros unleashed Giratina, enraged her, and commanded her to destroy all of Sinnoh. Travis and his Pokemon, along with the help of the Lake Guardians, tackled Giratina into the Distortion World, and prevented her from obliterating all of Sinnoh. In the confusion, the leader of Ouroboros and a few lieutenants escaped. What happened in the Distortion World is unknown. All that IS known, is that Travis made it out alive. And, from there, he was free to get his final badge, Volkner's, and challenge the league.

It was a tough journey, but Travis and his crew did it. They ended up beating Cynthia, but were unable to accept her offer to become Champions. It was Paladin's fault, since he reminded them that Ouroboros was still out there, and they had a job to do. The places they've visited so far, Hoenn and Kanto, haven't had any traces of Ouroboros there, but they're sure the Team will show up again soon enough.

Pokemon Team: ((I'm only going to do Happyfeet, since I know we're only supposed to bring our strongest Pokemon))

Happyfeet - Empoleon - "The Emporer Pokemon"

Bold Nature

MOVES: Hydro Cannon, Flash Cannon, Surf, Ice Beam, Drill Peck, Aqua Jet

Feat That Garnered Invitation: "Erm... says here that 'Your battle prowess was so great in your triumph against Regigigas, Travis, that us at the Suna League would like to-" yeah. So, uh, beating Regigigas, then. I would've said beating Cynthia, but I suppose that's not good enough..."

Special Notes: Ever since he's traveled to the Distortion World, he no longer seems to see Arceus as a godlike figure, and, instead seems to have great faith in, or even worship Giratina, since instead of using common mannerisms like "Oh my Arceus" and "Arceus damnit!", he'll say "For the love of Distortion..." and "Well Giratina be damned"; stuff like that he's taken a great liking too.

[spoiler=Special Note(s)]Please note that this is meant to be a long-term RP. By that, I mean that I would like it if players didn't attempt to rush to every single location as fast as possible. As of now, the Fourth Gym is the final point of play, so take your time! All players will begin at Tesauna Port and start from the beginning. If the Gym Leader is busy, battle others, or maybe even NPC characters. No reason not to show your RP'ing skills while waiting for your shot at the Gym. Gym Leaders without challengers may wander the island as they see fit, as staying in a Gym waiting the entire RP would blow. When a challenger arrives, however, they must return as quickly as possible to meet the challenge. Players are allowed up to six party Pokemon and allowed to bring two extra along to store in the PC. Pokemon caught on the island are completely fine to use, so long as you deposit another Pokemon from your party to the PC. This can be done immediately after catching a Pokemon. If there are further questions, feel free to ask.

"Normal/Generic" Trainer

Gave it a good read, multiple times, and I have to say; good stuff! Not too shabby at all. I feel you'd make a wonderful addition as the first trainer accepted into this RP. Thanks for applying! Accepted.
