The Lore

On a distant world, there exists a civilization composed entirely of dragons. Away from the influence of humans, they evolved into three distinct types: Holy Dragons, who flock together and protect each other; Infernal Dragons, who fight for dominance and ravage the world; and Machina Dragons, so intelligent that they have forgone their flesh to become steel and wires. Ruling over them all, a radiant and terrible king dragon who protects the world from threats originating outside their world.

 

Now discovered, the conflicts of the Duel Monsters have enveloped their world. And the world may not be prepared for what happens when you awaken a sleeping dragon...

 

The Archetype

 

"Ryusei" (from Ryu- ("Dragon") and -sei ("epoch") cards focus on three different areas; Holy Dragons focus on swarming together, Infernal Dragons focus on harassing the opponent, and Machina Dragons focus on protecting your own monsters. Their boss monster and only Extra Deck card, Bahamat, seeks to bring this all to a point with his ability to banish up to 5 cards (one at a time, of course) and being a generally beefy card (5000/5000 if you happen to get him out with his maximum Xyz Materials). With cards like "Renewal" to return cards and "Roar" to protect them, you'll find it a tough sell to get the leg up on these dragons! They also naturally synergize with cards like "Castle of Dragon Souls" and "Oasis of Dragon Souls".

Ryusei Arariel

"Perhaps I am small, and I can't do much on my own... but that's what friends are for!"

LIGHT/4/Dragon/Effect/1600/1100

When this card is Normal Summoned: Excavate the top 5 cards of your Deck, then you can Special Summon 1 excavated "Ryusei" monster, also shuffle the rest back into your Deck. Once per turn: You can draw a card, and if you do, this card cannot attack during your Battle Phase this turn.

Ryusei Crocell

"Power multiplies exponentially. If I'm strong on my own, I'm stronger with a partner!"

DARK/4/Dragon/Effect/1800/700

When this card is Normal Summoned or Flip Summoned: You can draw a card. When this card is Special Summoned: Target 1 monster your opponent controls; return that target to the hand. You can only activate each effect of "Ryusei Crocell" once per turn.

Ryusei Ferrum

"The world is full of danger. If I can help prevent some of it, I've done my job."

EARTH/4/Dragon/Effect/500/1900

You can discard this card: Add 1 "Ryusei" Spell/Trap Card from your Deck to your Hand. You can only use this effect of "Ryusei Ferrum" once per turn. While this Special Summoned card is face-up on the field: "Ryusei" monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle.

Ryusei Eremiel

"Light and darkness have an order to them, with light above and dark below. Just so, I am above you and you are beneath me."

LIGHT/6/Dragon/Effect/2400/1000

While you control another LIGHT "Ryusei" monster: This card gains 500 ATK and DEF. Once per turn, when an attack is declared a "Ryusei" monster you control and an opponent's monster: You can Special Summon this card from your hand.

Ryusei Buer

"Everything burns. People, places... the stars themselves burn. When I burn, though, you burn with me."

DARK/6/Dragon/Effect/2400/1000

When this card is sent from your hand to the Graveyard: Your opponent declares a number from 1 to 3; both players Draw the declared number of cards. Once per turn: You can discard 1 card and target 1 "Ryusei" monster you control; that target can make a second attack during each of your Battle Phases this turn.

Ryusei Titanium

"My body as a shield. I am nothing if I do not do for the world."

EARTH/6/Dragon/Effect/100/2750

When you Draw this card outside of your Draw Phase: You can reveal this card; Special Summon it in Defense Position. Once per turn, during your opponent's Battle Phase: If an attack is declared involving a "Ryusei" monster you control, other than this card; you can make this card the target of that attack instead.

Ryusei Uriel

"The darkness is nothing to be feared. At the end of the day, it is what hides in the dark that seeks to harm you."

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) while you control 2 or more "Ryusei" monsters with different names and Levels. Once per turn, during your opponent's Main Phase: You can target 1 card on the field; return that target to the Hand, and if you do, Draw a card.

Ryusei Adrammelech

"Power comes with a cost. You have to decide what you're willing to pay, and hope that you get something of equal value."

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) while you control 2 or more "Ryusei" monsters with different names and Levels. Once per turn, during your Main Phase: You can discard 1 card, and if you do, discard 1 random card from your opponent's Hand.

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) while you control 2 or more "Ryusei" monsters with different names and Levels. "Ryusei" monsters you control with a lower Level than this card cannot be targeted by an opponent's card effects.

Ryusei Necrosyrtes

"I am their rage made manifest. I am their fury distilled. I. Am. Eternal."

DARK/10/Dragon/Effect/3500/0

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned from your hand by discarding 3 "Ryusei" monsters. Once per turn, when this card is targeted by an opponent's card effect: You can discard 1 card; negate that effect, and if you do, destroy that card.

Bahamat, King of the Ryusei

"A king takes the front line when there is danger, and leads from behind and puts others in front when they celebrate victory."

LIGHT/Rank 8/Dragon/Xyz/Effect/2500/2500

2 or more (max. 5) Level 8 "Ryusei" monsters
This card gains 500 ATK and DEF for each Xyz Material it has attached to it. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material and target 1 card on your opponent's side of the field; Banish that target.

Seiryu, Holy Star of the Dragons

"Legend tells of the king's first consort. So beautiful was she that the heavens themselves stole her away."

Field Spell

Once per turn: This card cannot be destroyed. During each of your Standby Phases: You can target up to 2 "Ryusei" monsters you control; increase or decrease that target(s) Level by 1. "Ryusei" monsters you control gain 300 ATK and DEF.

Ryusei Retribution

Quick-Play Spell

Destroy 1 face-up monster your opponent controls. You must control a "Ryusei" monster to activate and resolve this effect.

Ryusei Renewal

"Water is the source of all life. It cleanses the soul and renews the flesh."

Normal Spell

Banish 1 "Ryusei" monster from your Hand, then target 1 "Ryusei" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it. If a "Ryusei" monster you control would be destroyed by battle you can banish this card from your Graveyard instead of destroying that monster.

Ryusei Roar

"In most cases, a dragon's roar is merely the prelude to its fury."

Quick-Play Spell

Target 1 "Ryusei" monster you control; that target is unaffected by the opponent's card effects this turn. If a "Ryusei" monster(s) you control would be destroyed by a card effect, you can banish this card from your Graveyard instead of destroying 1 of those monsters.

Ryusei Return

"Oh tongue give sound to joy and sing of hope and promise on dragonwing!"

Normal Spell Card

Add 1 Level 4 "Ryusei" monster from your Deck to your hand. While this card is in your Graveyard, except the turn that it was sent there: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; Special Summon 1 Level 4 "Ryusei" monster from your hand.

Bones of the Ryusei

"Don't hide away the dead, like they're something to fear or hate. See them, learn their stories, and in that way they can live again."

Continuous Trap

When a "Ryusei" monster is sent from your side of the field to the Graveyard: Place 1 Dragonbone Counter on this card (max. 3). Once per turn: You can remove 3 Dragonbone Counters from this card; Special Summon 1 "Ryusei" monster from your Graveyard, ignoring its Summoning Conditions.

Whenever I see something like this, I'm so happy that people are able to do this. I really want to see a fic with someone using these cards now.

 

Anyhow, these cards seem similar to Melodius, due the SS script.

 

Ryusei Arariel

 

Can only Summon itself and Crocell, sadly. There aren't even Ryusei monsters with lower levels than it, so that part's redundant. Perhaps summon a monster with Level

 

Ryusei Crocell

 

This guy seems to be a dead draw, but pairs with Arariel. In fact, a lot of the archetype has limited synergy with itself, running in pairs.

 

Ryusei Ferrum

 

Pretty generic, not much to say here.

 

Ryusei Eremiel

 

Slow way of getting it out, you'll need a Double Summon to Combo here.

 

Ryusei Buer

 

Again, slow, and effect has not much point except bringing Titanium out. I feel like there should be a theme here somewhere.

 

Ryusei Titanium

 

Would be a neat card, IF the archetype focused on drawing. But currently, only 1 card can bring it out.

 

Level 8 Ryuseis

 

IF ONLY THIS ARCHETYPE WAS FASTER, these cards would be so great! But currently, difficult to get 1 out, but if you manage to have 2 in your hand, you might make it.

 

I feel the Archetype is lacking a main theme, and I'm not gonna comment on the S/T because they are pretty generic. They do fit with the cards, but only because the cards don't have a focus.

 

The cards are really cool, I just feel they can be so much more. Good luck!

Thanks for the CnC! I've made some adjustments based on your recommendations:

 

- Arariel now has relaxed conditions for its Special Summon and provides a Draw at the expense of attacking that turn.

- Crocell now has a different effect to help move along the engine as well, but retains the ability to bring a friend with him when he's special summoned.

- Eremiel can now Special Summon himself out when your opponent attacks one of your monsters (or when you attack theirs).

- Buer feeds into the engine as well.

- And now there's a new boss monster who takes advantage of the amount of draw power they have: Ryusei Necrosyrtes.

 

I hope they now have a clear direction and more unified theme.

These are really neat! I could see a Yugioh protagonist (or maybe a Kaiba clone) using these. I like how you themed them around draw power without making it ridiculous. Also, the lore quotes are pretty neat. 10/10, would proxy IRL.

 

I'd like to think it'd be for a combination Bakura/Jounouchi character (lighthearted, confident, but also protective of his friends).

 

That said, I decided to go ahead and change Crocell's effect again to better fit with the theme of Infernal Dragons harassing the opponent. Now when he's special summoned, he bounces a monster.
